So after killing a fair few Anacondas from the bulletin board (the 150k+ missions) with my Viper, I started to want a bit of variety. I looked at my balance and then at the cost of an ASP, and got the depressing thought that I'm not going to be able to change ship for a long time (already used the Cobra). Until the thought occurred to me that instead of upgrading my ship.. I could downgrade it.
I started off by trying the Adder vs an Elite Anaconda from a 198k assassination mission. Still very easy, and only required me to use 3 shield cells.
So then I decided to take it to the next stage, the Eagle:

Due to the power of this fit, it is easily the cheekiest thing I've ever done in Elite.
In order to get this to run, when I'm locating the Anaconda I have turned off the:
Then the fight began. All power to System so shields have max recharge speed, with two pips to Weapons as otherwise they overload. FSD sub-system targeted.
In order to not take the full brunt of the enemy's firepower, it was important to try and stick to its blindspots as much as possible, which is directly behind it; this means no kiting.
Towards the end of the fight, around when the Anaconda's shields go down, it started to boost away from me before turning around and shooting. In order to get past this I had to be fast with my power management, temporarily diverting power to Engines in order to be able to boost out of the firing line.
Another thing I did was constantly Thrust Downwards, default F key; this let me continue shooting the target whilst moving behind it.
So its going well, WAAY better than expected. The FSD gets down to 3%, its about to die. Oh no it isn't, its shields come back online.

I've only got one shield cell left, and have a look at how much ammo the third gun has left. This was when it got a whole lot harder. Sticking to its tail as close as I possibly could, its remaining shield slowly trickled down, even slower once one of my guns depleted its ammo. And then:

Finally, it was done. Looking at my remaining life support, it took a grand total of approximately 9 minutes and 14 seconds.
