Killing new Players: CMDR Sabbathias vs. CMDR [REDACTED]

I kinda felt for you, sure this game needs as many players as it can get... but: He warned you, told you what he demands and you tried to run... basic pirate action witch with i completely agree and then... when you were where you got yourself by your actions you performed the famous Immelmans... eh... Logoff maneuver...
I hope that that pirate does what cmdr edgar wrote, this game needs new players but not cheating scum.

So yeah...

I suppose not, it maybe is abusing a system that was added so people could quit the game in mid space when too far away from a station. Its intended use is not to evade attack thats for sure.

If the ship is in danger - in a combat situation - then there is a log out timer. If the ship is "save", then the log out is instantly. SO FD specially designed the log out process in that way to prevent players just logging out in combat. That means, that logging out using the menu in a combat situation is completely within the rules of the game as it is specially designed with that situation in mind.

Logging out via menu isn't an exploit, it isn't abusing a game mechanic, it's simply using the game mechanic in it's intended form.

That said: It's really not the best thing to do. It will just motivate pirates to simply destroy any ship that isn't fast enough to comply to their demands. The result is exactly the opposite of what the OP wants. Logging out of the game while a pirate player tries to help a new player (that's my impression from what the OP wrote) is very counterproductive for the new player.

Edit: Just to make it clear: I'm completely against logging out in a combat situation or in any situation with player interaction for that matter.

...to avoid death or handing over your cargo. It sounds worse when you finish the sentence.

It may sound worse, but it's not. :) It's FD's decision how they design the logout timer.
It may not be nice and I wouldn't do it myself, but it is what it is. *shrug*

would be nice if we could see more then people's combat rank, that way pirates could clearly see pointless targets.

That said would be nice if pirates didn't go for smaller ships too since they clearly have no chance.

What were you flying?

Another case where ccp actually did something right with the log off timer that refreshes when targeted by players, you might be logged off but you will still loose.

Sabbathias, I hope you have a different CMDR nick that on forums (but once we find the video that won't help) since you will be hunted and rightly so. Especially considering how nice the pirate was.

Yes because a KOS is a very mature thing to do because someone decided to do the unthinkable and log out on you instead of facing the consequences. You can say what happened was cowardly and unsportsmanlike and all those things, that is true and you have a right to call out on that. Admitting to a KOS list or saying that you will kill someone on sight repeatedly any time you see them is childish in the extreme and I am just calling that as I see it.

Just FYI, interdicting someone, and demanding their stuff at threat of destruction is not nice. Just so, you know.

They need to fix the log off as an escape, like leave the ship in the open for a further 5 mins if you log when you are in open and attacked by a cmdr.

I've encountered worse dropping goods off via the 405, what's the matter with you?

Is this what you've become, a Hollywood finocchio who cries like a woman? "Oh, what do I do? What do I do?" and then logs off? What is that nonsense?

I couldn't help but hear this in the voice of Don Corleone himself :D
You're right though. It technically might not be cheating, but come on. It was a pirate playing the way they're supposed to. Even helping OP. Very low to just exit the game. Not illegal, but very, very cowardly.
(Then again, I'm not ruling out this thread was meant as a troll in the first place)

Considering the only mmo I have played was eve online where even the good guys would murder you on sight, collect whatever valuables that drop as well as your corpse for display purposes.

And having a group camp your login station 24/7 for 2 months was "normal use of game mechanics" then yes, interdicting and asking for a cargo drop is nice

My instinct is to just kill on sight and sort through whatever is left. But that's mainly because I hate people so play solo anyways.
