Killing Skimmers On Foot - How?

The other day I did a settlement raid. First I disabled all the alarms except I left authorization scan on. I proceeded to take out the NPC's in the settlement and collected material and data at the same time.

Doing it the way I did left some guards alive and at some point the few left started shooting at my ship that was parked in back of the settlement.

I went out and decided I better get rid of the rest of the guards before I continued looting so I went and took care of the guards.

At this point a skimmer started shooting at me even though the settlement alarms were off along with point defense and all other alarms.

This is the first skimmer that started shooting at me in all the settlement raids I have done that I have turned off all the settlement alarms.

At this point I boarded my ship and changed my load out to include my modded G5 L-6. Went back out and even though the skimmer was shooting at me the L-6 would not take the skimmer out. The shots had no effect and it looked like the L-6 was not even locking on to the skimmer.

Is it possible to shoot down a skimmer while on foot and if so how?

I would also like to know how to take a Goliath out in case I ever decide to do a settlement raid at a military settlement.

Yes, you can shoot it with weapons. Coincidentally, you can also shoot a Goliath with weapons, it'll just take a bit longer. And I wasn't aware the L-6 was supposed to lock on to targets, I thought it was a dumbfire missile.

Both the Executioner and Intimidator work well against small Skimmers. I always avoided Goliaths, so can't say anything about those.
The plasma weapons, when upgraded, will one-shot a skimmer. Goliaths are doable, but need far more obviously. (Find a doorway, ideally one with an ammo crate inside, and just plug away nipping back inside to let shields regen when they go down).

Well something is off because the shell explodes right in front of the skimmer and nothing happened. Shot three times and absolutely no affect on the skimmer.

Next time I will try it with my G5 Executioner.

Were you engaged with the skimmer, and firing directly at it? If yes, it was probably just shooting the missiles mid-flight while it was attempting to shoot you.

There is a possibility that either shots from the skimmer itself or perhaps the Point Defence of the settlement are taking out your rockets. When I use the L-6 in CZs, the projectiles sometimes get shot out of the air. Likewise, it seems to be possible to shoot the rockets of Enforcers so they blow themselves up.

I usually shoot at them until out of ammo then run to my ship, but my aim is less than desirable with stationary targets, much less things which move.

Shoot them up with AR-50 or C-44... both are very good at this. Especially if you stand next to ammo crate. Do this, and you find that killing goliath with 2000+ shots can be fun.

I haven't really had to fight that many Goliaths (only at launch when I didn't realise that blowing up a skimmer would instantly set off the alarm), but a tunnel bore Intimidator seems to kill it even faster.

The L-6 is a dumbfire rocket launcher - it doesn't lock on to targets.

My recommendation is to engage the nimble Skimmers with either Laser or Kinetic weapons if possible. Plasma hits hard, but travels about as fast as a Nerf dart. If Plasma is your only option, close the distance with the Skimmer: they might look intimidating, but they don't do much damage.

Honest question - how does everyone deal with the Goliath's missiles? The last time I tried to fight one on foot I wound up running for my ship under a hail of explosions...

I've killed skimmers frequently with my L5 Aphelion rifle. I can't remember if I've killed them with the AR-50 or not.

I've killed a few Goliaths with a L5 Tormentor plasma pistol. It takes a LONG while. Helps if you use something like the Aphelion to take down the shields, then switch to the Plasma.

Goliaths are frustrating, but the standard skimmers are a joke.... unless something changed in the last few weeks.

Not sure how anyone else doing it, but in my case, I just jump and use jetpack to gain max height possible in moment before missiles hits ground. If done correctly, you can avoid AOE if jumped high enough. But it wont work in higher G planets, so for these, you need camp like near to any entrance to a buliding(with ammo crate inside), and just hide inside when goliath decide to use rockets.

Goliath are more likely to use thier missiles on ships or SRV, not sure why they can lock on at on-foot targets.

They are quite tanky, g5 kinetics auto weps needs like about 2000 shots to take it down, about 4-5 trips to ammo crate assuming you have extra ammo capacity in your suit.

Plasma rifle is a one shot kill for most things even flying drones.

Before commencing main attack on a settlement, casually walk up to a skimmer and get as close as you can, they are usually hanging around the perimeter of the settlement. Point your rocket launcher at their soft underbelly and one shot them out of the sky. As for Goliaths, use the new scorpion.
