Trying to to rank up with the feds, I got this mission. Kill 16 pirates. Sounded pretty easy so I took it. Oh boy was I mistaken. None of the kills are counting against the tally. I've confirmed that I'm killing the correct pirates in the correct ways, as well as searched the the good ole web for a solution (which I feel like I shouldn't have to do)

So, anyone have any ideas? Am I not killing the mysterious unicorn pirates?

tl;dr don't take these types of missions. Been horribly broken for a long time. You need to kill:

- The right type of enemy
- In the right system
- For the correct faction

If in doubt, if it doesn't have the "Mission Target" text under it, it's not right.

Oh yeah. Been there, done that. Avoid these missions like the plague. You think you're stacking missions, but the Pirate 887C pirates ships are very different from the Pirate 887c pirates, who are very different from the Pirates of 887C ships.

I gave up looking and dumped the missions.

You're best bet for Fed rank is Tun. Go there, run the missions. Thats how I did it. I wasted a lot of time looking for shortcuts.

Yes. Not worth the effort and very difficult to complete on time. really frustrating when you get to 48 out of 49 pirates only to time out before you find the last one. Massacre missions are much more straight-forward.

It's a shame because they used to work really well a year or so ago, and they were a useful bonus if you were a bounty hunter. Now, all they do is lose you rep when you can't complete them on time.

Yeah, these can tough. I've found staying in SuperCruise and interdict the correct targets yields the best results. Still a lot of work and flying around.

Yeah, supercruise is the best, I've tried looking in NAV and RES and never found mission targets.

Little Tip.... Last time I took a Kill X amount of pirates mission was for a rank progression. I found a target in supercruise, interdicted him, killed him, all good...but if I waited around his buddies kept dropping in in wings of 2/3, all mission targets. This continued endlessly until the quota was full. Don't know if this always happens, but it's handy if it does.

All ranking missions I've ever done (up to Rear Admiral and Duke) where Courier Jobs, why make this unnecessary difficult?

Also all these "Kill X ships by Faction Y in System Z" are only really usable with a Conflict Zone nearby.

They will say "MISSION TARGET" in red on your HUD.

Best way is to buy a ton of gold or platinum and fly around in SC. They will interdict you.
