Kills

You summary on the right hand panel shows a lot of things, except kills and mission stats ie how much you have earned doing hauler missions and such. Where can I see how many kills I have?

You can´t.
The closest is how many bounties you have collected in the combat stats.
I think the reason for this is to prevent bloodthirsty vets to go on killing spree among the newbies - just to get a big kill number and show how "good" they are. ;)

Ok with that in mind, I have 13 kills and still harmless. I thought you get mostly harmless at 10 kills or am I way off the mark?

For perspective, I'm at "Novice" at 91 kills. So, "Mostly Harmless" is probably somewhere around the 40 - 60 mark, I suppose?

I was mostly harmless at about 17 or 18 kills. Maybe the game factors in the type of the ship and rank of the opponent you killed.

Not sure - googled "elite dangerous combat ranking" and some mentioned that he needed 200+ kills to get above "harmless" and another got to "novice" with just 90.
So my guess is that it is related to how much bounty those kills gives - rather than numbers.

Same with exploration, you are a better explorer if you fully map 100 star systems than just passing through and discover 1000 stars on the way.

Not forgetting that the rank of the kill affects how much you climb. Kill 90 Harmless and you might crawl up to Mostly Harmless, or kill a handful of Elite (as an example, I don't know the numbers exactly, just giving an example...) and you're up quicker.

You get more rapid advancement if you kill ships with a higher combat rating than yours. So blowing up 2 experts will get you more than 2 harmless.

I am currently sitting on the grand total of 0 - probably need to work on that a bit..

They really need to put the kill counter back in. It was so much easier to just look over to keep track. In this game you would think that would be a major score keeping component sort of.

I just killed my first elite anaconda assassination mission :p With my nimble little eagle.

# of kills is probably less of a good barometer than bounties earned since usually the bigger the ship the bigger the bounty.. so while you could kill a ton of small ships a few bigger ships should give you a similar ranking. (IMO)

I just went to mostly harmless with 10 kills. I don't go looking for fights and only kill ships that interdict me and attack.
