Killstealing - battlefield etiquette

I will always steer clear of a fellow cmdrs target unless they ask for help. If anyone steals a kill from me they are then fair game....

Well, it seems there is no agreed etiquette quite yet - I hope we can agree on that :)

I think I'll take the advice at just move along if another CMDR is already engaged at any given spot, but it'll be interesting to see what kind of "acceptable behaviour" develops in the course of the game.

Well that never happened to me before, but if someone did, he/she would be just next on my target list. Simple as that. I'm sure his insurance is higher than what he got from that steal.

You're a hard pilot Starbuck... I respect that, but what about if you were struggling against a superior target say a much larger ship and someone came in to assist you, but then they got the bounty what would you do then I wonder...

I only ever bounty hunt in Anarchy zones and i have two rules that i always tell any commanders that enter an instance i am in.

You ram me, ill attack.

You shoot me, even by mistake, ill attack.

I don't care if they steal my kills unless it gets repetitive and then i warn them off and if they don't stop doing it i attack.

Frontier choose to make an MMO game with PVP mixed to PVE every where. But without the knowledge, the experience and the content of this kind of game. Then in nexts days you will read many post about greifing/Ram/KS...

Brilliant. Here we go:

Shoot first.
Shoot last.

We done?

I'd say that If a BH was already engaged with a target and is in the process of wearing him down, then it would be bad form to get involved and steel the bounty.
Anyone doing that should not be too surprised to find other bounty hunters comming after them...

The exception is if the first BH is in trouble and requests or accepts help, in such a circumstances the bounty should be split....

If two or more BH's go after a target (or targets) together, then the bounty should be split between them no matter who gets the kill shot.... (there should be an in game mechanic for this soon)

A perfectly reasonable response. Of course, you'll have to pay off your bounty if you succeed.

Bounty hunters are not knights. They're out to make money. The only reason to back off a kill in favour of someone else, is a prior agreement, or expectation of increased cost as a result of not doing so.

I'd be more likely to wait till it was at 1% and hit it with a railgun

My hunting grounds, my rules. Break them and you die ;)

If someone took my kill, so what.
No problem.
I met a few players acting like "Don`t steal my bounty again !" followed by a trigger happy act on me. Result : They got blown to dust because i react to threats.
Don`t get enraged by "kill stealing" folks. There are so many cookies out there.

I've been robbed of 80k-140k Bounties. It's part of the game. Target something else and kill it.

^^This as far as I am concerned.

If it happens occasionaly no problem, it's just a few K anyway. But when you have someone boosting in front of you every time you line up a wanted it get's a bit much, especially as it would be easy to clip them as they come in over you.

Suppose a solution would be bounty split between % of damage done.

There's no need for any mechanics changes. People can let others do the work and take the prize from them. And people can target other bounty hunters if they feel the desire to do so.

No need according to you and your play style. Others appear to disagree, hence my solution.

If you play nice you can last hit every other ship. But most of the time it's a free for all and it's totally fair game. If you don't like other people you can fly to another nav zone. They could also just kill you for no apparent reason while you're hunting too... Part of the fun is figuring out who/how those hollow triangles play. it injects some chaos into a rather predictable AI.

I fly uncomfortably close to the target so anyone shooting it has a hard time not getting a bounty. On the other hand they could blow me up easier if that was their intention.

Entirely part of the game.

Had a head too with someone the other day, we were both in Cobras looking for bounties along with a 3rd human player in an Eagle at a nav point. He actually got most of the kills but then I took a big one and he couldn't stop himself having a go at me, obviously not happy I took 'his' kill. We both ended up at below 60% and I was just deciding discretion was the better part of valour when I heard 'Frame shift drive detected' Aha, I turned a fired a final salvo before he shot off... a moral victory at least.

Off for repairs and then back to have a look on the off chance he may be back. There he was again, along with the other guy in the Eagle. I didn't wait for the invitation this time and piled straight in only to find the Eagle buddying up with matey boy and having a pop at me as well. With two of them at me and hull heading south of 70% I decided it wasn't worth the risk so scarpered quick. Back to base for a freshen up and a missile rack, then back for another look. Sure enough, he was back, likewise back to 100%. Head on game of chicken I gave him a full blast of twin beams and a quick salvo of missiles... he's down to 48% in and instant and I haven't got a scratch... perfect. Boost, flight assist off, spinning round as fast as I can but once again 'Frame shift drive detected' and he's gone.

Not seen him since but I'd like to thank him for the most exciting, totally exhilarating, heart pounding experience in ED so far, fantastic stuff!

And no, a kill isn't yours unless you get the bounty. Once you introduce 'etiquette' you have a whole world of pain with grey areas and judgement calls and, of course, pilots who take no notice anyway. If you're not happy someone took 'your' kill, don't whine on here about it, show them your not happy in the game.

Bottom line, there's no ettiquette other than getting the last hit.

Yeah, tell that to the last guy who kill stole from me and ask him if the 200k rebuy cost on his Cobra was worth that 4k bounty he didn't live to turn in.

If your firing on my quarry, you're not firing on me, and chances are I'm the much bigger threat...at least when I see what you're doing.
