Knocking the Stuffing Out of Shield Generators

I am participating the current CG in the Angent system.

Have been ganked three times and lost my ship once (ouch) :) What interests me though is how quickly my shields are getting dropped for good.

Now, not sure how much strength my shields have, but using Coriolis Shipyard, its likely something north of 3,000 MJ absolute. Translation, pretty strong. Here's some detail:

- Ship: Anaconda
- Shields: 7A
- Engineering: G5 Reinforced with HiCap effect
- Boosters: x 4 engineered.
- Have 2 module reinforcement modules fitted.

Back to the ganks. Drop into a haz res to bounty hunt. Attacked by real players. Two times they waited until I was leaving the res, presumably because my weapons were already depleted so an easier target. However, the second and third occasions are more interesting. On both occasions my shields were at full strength. Here's what happened:

- Shields completely dropped in around 5 seconds.
- Shield generator at 0% in module tab AND would not regenerate shields even with full power.
- No cockpit warnings e.g. taking heat, impulse attack, FSD failure, etc.

Only other bit of useful information is that when I went into the module tab to check the status of the shield generator, it was blanked out and stayed that way - could not be repaired. Had to repair at the station.

So for those in the know, what sort of shield killing weapon am I dealing with here? :)

Edit - if it is a cascade torp shot without warning, what's the counter?

Edit - Just to be clear, shields weren't just dropped. They were irrevocably busted both times.

Yep. Will nuke your shields in seconds. Do you have an MRP? Helps a bit.

Does that work now? I remember on release that Reverb Cascade used to ignore MRPs and deal damage straight to the generator, the only defence used to be to actually buff up the generator's durability itself.

If attacking from ambush, as in this case, reverb torps are by far the best choice and fit with what happened in the scenario. Occam's Razor etc.

Ive used torp cascades and as far as i am aware you should receive a warning when they are fired at you , mines however have no warning (been a long time since i fought them so this could have changed). Although im sure you would have seen the explosions as you run into the? Maybe? Unless preoccupied.

Honestly your slow Anaconda is just a big target. It's not suitable for Bounty Hunting with other players in the area.

Buff your Shield Generator Hit Points is the only defense. And then maybe....

With a rather large caveat that I don't usually play in open or have interest in pvp (in ED), I believe the kids that got gud go with hybrid builds these days. Fast recharge bi-weaves with the slots given over to stacks of hull and module reinforcements and not a SCB in sight.

Of course this therefore means pvp fit ships will always be superior to ships fit for anything else at all, but then thats why pvp does not interest me in this game.

Pretty sure that it's not mines. They have been attacks of opportunity from behind when I'm leaving the haz res. Torp's with cascade would be the best bet, but the bit I'm missing is the explosion and cockpit warning. Maybe missed the explosions, twice (would have been behind me) but not the cockpit warning surely? (I have assumed there is one, but can anyone confirm this as a definite as of now in 3.2).

PS Like the Cmdr name BTW :)

True, like a brick compared with the medium FAS which I like, but awesome DPS with the Conda.

If the opposition had small very fast ships and skilled pilots - mines are a possibility. Think WW2 dive bombers.

Hmm, why not ask the guys who you fought with? They will provide a better answer than we can speculate on these boards... it might have been a ship that, for some reason, didn't show up on your screen(p2p magic)/invisible torpedoes/bugged torp warnings/other sorts of bugs/a guy with häxed ATR weapons..

But if you really wanna know what happened for sure, ask those dudes who whacked you.

It was your shields modifications for starters , they fall very easy to reverb mines. Also fletchett launchers could have played a roll in this , if you were being fired upon, they are somewhat discreet because of the minimal damage they do to your shields and hull when module targeting. One more thing , the warning system for torps can be easily handled through various techniques , but I wont be giving out those secrets.

Occam's Razor.. looking that way :)

I cannot see Occam's Razor at my current port, is it only available at Shinrarta? How should one engineer it?

Haha, j/k!

But seriously I hate those vibrating mines and torpedoes. A person grinds away for months to get big powerful ships thinking 'finally, I can be secure', and all the PvP murder tots laugh their socks off as they run rings round you in little hull-tank vipers, using these utterly unfair weapons to destroy many a CMDRs pride and joy. *sigh*

Thought about that. Killed on the first run and have an idea about what happened. It was the second and third attempts that caught my interest (see OP). Didn't get killed on second and third run, just got out of Dodge, so hard to work out who fired the shot just looking at the contact list :)
