Ships KRAIT MK-II Pre-Engineering PVE Build

Greetings to the Elite Community,

What do you think of the below Krait Mk-II build?
I am fairly new to the game and I have built this way the MK-II intending to play Solo (for the time being) without really knowing what I want to do apart from that I should gather the Engineering materials (I have upgraded to G1 FSD from Felicity and going on to G5/Mass Manager) and that in the meantime I want to start fighting with NPCs so as to gain combat experience. I don't want to grind through the engineering process, I would like to take my time and improve and learn the game while having a decent ship capable of pulling through many situations and keeping me safe while punching as much as possible.
Ofcourse the wake scanner will be removed after collecting data materials as well as the srv hangar most probably after collecting manufactured and raw materials.
Also keep in mind that this is the ship I would like to improve on.
Any advice would be very much appreciated my fellow commanders!

With the stage you are in the game, and what you have to work with, this should be a good start. The NPCs should not be too difficult yet, as long as you don't take on anything too challenging (stay out of the high CZs, Hazardous Res and no tackling Wing missions solo).

I would scrap the docking computer and put a Collector limpet Controller instead, as if you are after materials this is an easy way to get manufactured ones while bounty hunting. You can always close your cargo hatch if you need to fly more quickly and the collectors will follow you around until you re-open or they run out of fuel.

Good luck!

I would suggest a few changes

I'd swap the two outboard multicannons and beams, giving you a pair of large beams and three MCs. Better for shield stripping.

A class 6 cargo rack is for what?, especially with no limpet controller. I'd put a scoop in that slot and a cargo rack where the scoop currently is. A 6A scoop is expensive.

Like Alski said I'd work a collector limpet controller in there so you can scoop mats after combat. I have a couple ships using a class 1 and it's fine. Can only support one limpet at a time, but it only requires a class 1 slot so there ya go.

Something like this

I dropped the SRV and put in a surface scanner. SRV can be swapped in and out as you need it. Surface scanner for the cash from all the valuable planets you encounter. Dropped life support to D class, since you can synthesize life support.

Anytime, hope you find it useful. The Krait II is my favorite ship in Elite. I have three, and one is what I call my combat sweeper. It's intended to fight in CNBs, CZ and RES mostly, to scoop the detritus of war. You said you don't want to grind, and this is a great way to do something fun (combat) but also pave the path to improving your ship. When you kill a ship it blows up and mats are tossed about. Having the limpets means you can stop from time to time and send them out to collect those mats, which you can use for engineering or to trade for what you need. Of course you can scoop manually, which is viable, but a limpet controller makes it so much more laid back and simple. Be wary of what your limpets pick up --pay attention -- because these can be hot items that can result in being attacked after being scanned. So watch the notifications that pop up when the limpet makes a deposit and jettison anything you don't want to be scanned with on board.

This is the ship I use for this

Poison Whiskey

You don't need to carry a large amount of limpets, well some commanders do, but I think a class 4 cargo rack is plenty, and you can always synthesize more if you run out. And sometimes your limpet comes back with another limpet, although these are hot so be careful.

What I do is engage in combat and blow some stuff up, then check the contacts page to see what's floating nearby. Some mats are more useful or precious than others, and when I see some of what I want I'll fly near it, throttle back and release a limpet or two. Then I watch where they go and continually adjust my position and attitude to make limpet deliveries as seamless as possible, rotating to point my belly to the limpet, following it to shorten it's runs and that sort of thing. Makes it sort of a game within the game, limpet support haha.

Like you I have no desire to grind anything, but I like Elite combat, and setting a ship up for this is a great way to do what's fun while building stocks of mats to make your ship better. Good hunting commander and welcome to the forum.

Really useful, appreciate it. Nice ship - Poisonous Whiskey :) Wondering how long till i get there.. Many thanks again!

The Krait posted above, Poison Whiskey, has used both. I have the 6A in storage if I want to swap to it. But yeah, I agree with Pristine Bump, that Bi-Weaves are a bit better choice for sustained combat like you'll have in these sorts of instances (RES, CZ, CNB). But not so much that it will make a big difference. For me, the more important part, actually the most important part, is thermal resistance. This is what I feel gives shields the 'elasticity' that keeps them from collapsing in PvE combat. Bi-Weaves also use nearly a full MW less power.

You have received some wonderful advice, here. The Krait Mk II is an excellent ship. A collector limpet controller addition would, as previously posted, help you quite a lot (don't forget to stock up on limpets before you leave station - some cargo space is needed for this). I agree that maximizing your lasers over multi-cannons is a better choice. I'm not really on-board with dispensing with your auto-docking computer (I find this to be a tedious exercise), but the slot can be better used if you don't mind doing this (again and again and again) manually. Don't fly without a fuel scoop except on small/medium combat ships that you don't intend to jump between systems. Your Krait seems to be outfitted for combat, rather than materials gathering, so perhaps swap out that wake scanner for a kill warrant scanner. Otherwise, looks like you did your research. Nice work.

Greetings,

Being new to the Forum welcome! Affording an A rated Krait Mk II and meeting Felicity well you have some skills and your build is a good start heading in the right direction.

1. Work on obtaining a Guardian FSD booster adding up to 10 more LY jump range. It is one of the easiest Guarding toys to get and once you own it can buy it to every ship you own.

2. If combat is your thing you are going to need advanced engineering. As you increase in your Elite combat rating those NPCs in Solo mode are going to get better to a point where without engineering you won't be happy!

3. No one ship does everything. I have a Dolphin totally dedicated to gathering HGEs as efficiently as possible. An Asp Explorer with a 60LY jump range to get around the bubble gathering materials and three Pythons per passengers making me billions of credits, a miner making billions of credits and a cargo ship often playing with CGs or with a cargo Cutter getting allied with every faction in a system.

Add three Krait Mk IIs one for multi-crew in CGs, a combat version and a Thargoid version.

4. Given the grind of the game I would install a docking computer just to save time. Also a detailed surface scanner gathering materials needed for engineering a lot faster.

Elite Dangerous is a complex game which is why I like it. I hope that you enjoy the challenge.

Regards

My first Krait was very flexible the key thing was having a good base to trade from and store my modules so when i ran cargo loops i would wake scan from every station ,when I mined I collected all the elements and when I fought I would collect as many components as possible as I unlocked Engineers I always had upgrade mats and I didnt find it a grind first time round.

All the mods in this thread work and can all be used depending what your current preferences are.

The game is very different now for me my Kraits live on My FC,s and i dont swop many modules over anymore just build a new spec Krait

One thing I want to add...we take it for granted, but a new player may not be aware. And that is when sending out limpets it will self destruct after depositing a specific targeted item. So don't target. Send it out with all targets de-selected and it will continue to make runs until it expires. This is what allows you to be effective with a smaller number of limpets on board. At the same time it's indiscriminate, and why you need to be wary of hot items. You can set certain things to avoid in the contacts list, but you should always know what the limpet dropped off. Mats are always safe, but any commodity for example could be hot. I move off out of range of other ships then jettison the hot thing. Seems I've been spotted littering and get a fine. So I move off a ways to do this. Not sure it's necessary really, but better safe than sorry.

Indeed I have and I appreciate it, most warm welcome ever! Thanks for the additional tips!

Thanks Commander, very helpful tips!

And indeed I was not aware of that, been spending the limpets like peanuts by always targeting the materials :p ! Great tips sinisalo, many many thanks

This is the latest update on the build: https://s.orbis.zone/hcva

Been moving on with extra engineering upgrades, plus adding the collector limpet controller, the 6A Fuel Scoop and changing to 3C Beam lasers and 6C Bi-weave shields + thermal resistance/HI-cap

One other point about limpets particularly is to make sure your keep your ignore list up to date as picking up illegal items will make you a target instantly. That's a decent starting build you have there although as other have said depending on your experience I'd consider removing the ADC altogether, putting a limpet controller in there then put a class 3 Hull reinforcement in the now available size 3 slot and put an AMFU in the size 2 ( handy to be able to boost away and repair any damaged modules on the fly).

o7 cmdr, the way i try to play ED is
one ship for one task of the game... for instance... to salvage,to find materials, to scan wakes, it is an explorer ship ,
for a bounty hunter ship , we use fsd interdiction..
i will not be playing ED long time but... i also donnot spend high ammounts of Cr on a multipurpose ship...
so if it costs 200M Cr, or 500M Cr, it should handle a combatzone "CZ"
the fun part of ED is outffiting a ship i guess...
