Ships Krait MK2 or Phantom again

Every time I fly the MK2 I want to switch to the Phantom. Every time I fly the Phantom I want to switch to the MK2.

Help.

My playstyle is mostly mission running (combat, smuggling, hauling) so I need a ship that is capable of defending itself. I have no interest in the SLF, so that's a big plus for the Phantom. It lacks one large hardpoint though.

I can only support Night Hawk. That playstyle has "Python" written all over it. A combat/hauling hybrid build will profit immensely from the additional size 6 internal. But since you already have a Python, why not branch out and specialize ? Turn that Python into an armed hauler, the Krait II into a pure combat machine, and the Phantom into an explorer. Those are the roles these three ships are strongest in

I do a lot of mission running in a T9 even.. Want to go Large or do you want to land in outposts? If not then condsider T9-10. I do not used the medium ships a lot. Mission running in a Vulture or FGS is great tho but then the cargo missions are less ideal

For your playstyle surely the Python would be the obvious choice as it has more internals and hence flexibility, up armour and change loadout as required. However I do prefer either of the Krait twins over the Python they're simply more fun to fly (the super efficient boost regen probably has something to do with this)

Good idea, but the practical problem is that you want to take this 'cargo' with you to perhaps multiple destinations, even doing an assasination while having cargo on board. So hopping ships a lot becomes to difficult since we have no cargo storage.

I feel your pain OP. I'm a Krait fanboi too. I usually go back to the Mk2 for three reasons: Phantom bridge is too red, the class 3 hardpoint, and I'm not a fan of the Phantoms "contrails from those crab flippers on the back" (replace with technical term)

The Phantom's ship kit is however superior to the Mk2 I feel.

You don't have to equip an SLF

I like the Phantom more from a "flying" perspective, it's just a bit more nimble and faster.
The MkII has the better optionals though, even if you don't want a SLF.

Both handle way better then the Python, and have a better cockpit view, so I fly the Python only when I run missions for INF for
my faction, because it's just the best ride for that.

Just build one of each, and use whatever you like whenever you like.

The Kraits are a lovely pair to agonize over, aren't they?

I have my Mk II set up as a more combat-oriented mission runner, while my Phantom leans more exploration / search & rescue, but can also turn NPC's to wreckage if needed.

I very much dislike hyper-specialization (it's just so boring, and what do I need credits for anyway), and the Kraits lend themselves so well to flexibility.

Forget all these boring soccer mom vans and use the under-appreciated Federal Dropship :D
When Python became too boring and I decided to make it a dedicated hauler for outposts, I did exactly this for my new mission runner/mat collector. It was bit of a challenge to make the Dropship an effective mission runner, but I think I pulled it off. It can defeat any NPC on 1-on-1, but has bit of a trouble when they are in a wing. Also decided to give it a larger SRV hangar and a focus on surface mission because it's called a dropship.

You can defeat any npc in a viper 4 if you actually want to. Maybe not thargoid npcs but ive never actually tried that in a viper4

NPC crewed SLFs still being broken has made this decision for me.

My Mk II is now a cargo ship and my Phantom is now a combat ship. Used to be the other way around, but without the SLF the Phantom feels a bit better as a fighter and I can get 224 tons of cargo in a Mk II that is still tricky to shoot down.

I don't really like the flight model of either ship that much; you can feel the Python the model was derived from. They are both a bit weak on vertical/lateral thrust and entirely too blue zone and boost dependent for my tastes...but it's hard to argue with the practical effects of that ultra low boost cost and they get the job done.

This is the first ive heard of this and havent experienced any problems with my npc slf pilots as of yet. What is the problem they've been having?

@Morbad which weapons do you use on the Phantom?

A pair of legacy focused PAs and some LR plasma slug rails.

It's probably cool enough to get by with two non-legacy focused PAs on an armored PP though.

You won't be able to see it on your end, but sooner or later using NPC crewed SLFs will start to cause your mothership (and SLF) to rubberband and lag for other CMDRs in the vicinity. In extreme cases it can infect the whole instance.

This was incorrectly thought to be caused by command spam, but even if that can cause the problem to occur sooner, it wasn't the underlying issue. Prior to 3.4, no amount of spamming of order would causes the issues even entirelly passive SLFs have tended to cause since.
