Kudos FD!

I can't express how happy I am about these changes! Most won't benefit my particular play style specifically, but it will benefit the game and that is much more important!

-New expensive items dropped from NPC
-Buff to smuggling
-Upcoming buffs to other professions (this is huge, if anyone knows anyone who quit because they hated trading, please tell them about this. I know two friends of mine will be coming back!)
-Cheaper fuel (fuel scoop still needed for exploration)
-Wings
-Cheaper ships
-Cheaper repairs

These changes are designed to keep players of different interests engaged in the game. This is going to be huge for a dynamic and diverse player-base in the game!

In short, incredible!

Yes very happy here, just killed a wanted Anaconda and took 26% damage to hull, only 29k to repair (the anaconda was worth 49k) :) previously that damage would have been well over 1m!

Might want to have a look at some of the threads from today......Devs have made some statements about how over powered trading is, and statements about the prices of war machines.................they are going to make changes.

As with any ongoing development we’re constantly examining balancing and there are some imbalances between the roles – in particular trading is too powerful compared with other play styles. We believe a player shouldn’t feel that they have to indulge in trading to reach the next suitable ship for their preferred way to play, so to make other roles more viable we’ll continue to strengthen the role of combat pilots, miners and explorers in the galaxy, making those paths a more viable option for progression in future updates.

In a minor update released before the end of the week we’ll reduce the price of non-trade ships and abolish the way fuel costs are scaled by ship type. What’s more, some of the smaller ships, like the Sidewinder will gain a powerful new advantage as their reduced profile makes them more effective for smuggling. These are minor changes but ones that dramatically increase the importance and viability of craft less suited to trading.

We know trading will still be a powerful route for progression in the game, so we’re looking to take a long-term approach to this as we continue to update the game and we’ll continue to take all your feedback on board.

Before I go, I know everyone is excited to learn more about PowerPlay, but we’re keeping this one close to our chests a little longer. For now I can promise it will be our biggest content update yet and will introduce some major new features to Elite: Dangerous’ galaxy. Of course, you’ll hear the first details about it here soon.

Thanks

Michael

If they nerf trading, traders will stop. End of. It would be a VERY silly mistake to do that.

EDIT: Was replying to Sim there. Reading MB's quote, it seems they are rather buffing the other proffs, not nerfing trading. Which is right.

They need to get the balance though. Others will moan and whine, but trading is dull for many people (not actually me) and the only thing keeping them doing it is the profits. You cant have hunters without the hunted, so its a balance that would affect everyone.

I've noticed a few little things now put right - well done FD
Maybe it's because I was messing with my stereo settings because of a youtube vid or maybe FD did something wonderful to the sound as you fly into (enter) a station - but excellent balance now between the mechanical sounds and ships voice when docking. :)

So have the prices of the Vulture, FDL, etc gone down?

They're about to later this week :) Answers in the linked thread above. Also, those who bought at the higher prices will get reimbursed the difference - have to read through the Dev replies later in that thread.

I have to say that my faith in this game has largely been restored. Isn't it amazing how much can be achieved by actually communicating.

Agreed, communication is key. To be fair, they do post and reply occasionally. The News forum is best place to catch them which makes sense.

Played the 1.2 beta and have been looking forward to the reaction to it when it dropped.
Just feels much more together. Direction is good. Updates are steady and released on schedule. Good times. :D

Communicating with a large community is difficult. They cant post much without getting people's hopes up, so they can only post when they know for sure in which direction they will go. Lots of internal debates precedes that. If they mention they are looking at things, considering changes and then dont do a thing people will get even angrier. Since release FD has consistently listened to us, and made quite a few changes based on what people said. I just assume they know whatever we are discussing, and they'll let us know when they've made up their mind. Seems to work so far, and it is great for my blood pressure. :D
