L.G.A.N Survey

Welcome CMDRS. MWSOG presents a geological survey. Clicking poster links to what the survey is about and how you can help if you'd like:

This is an ongoing survey that you can jump in and out of as you wish and participate how you like. Officially it start Monday March 5th and will continue until enough research has been collected.

Good timing.

I'm out in the California Nebula this week checking up with on the Thargoid Barnacles out there.
I don't know how to find these things.
Even with known coordinates they're tough to spot and harder with all the (lovely) planetary variety nowi.
I've got to be right on top of one before I go "That'll be it".

Got any guides to cold survey techniques?

AS a brochure it's lovely.
AS a guide - it's lacking in, For example: How can I see the percentages of mineral content of the planet?
How can I see the temperatures? etc

I'm trying to figure out how to help. I'm in Varati. Did some missions around here and some exploration, but there are no other Cmdrs around and I don't see anything nearby to help Canonn with. I'm looking into LGAN. Pipe(Bowl) looks like a lot of stars in Pipe(Stem). Is there one particular system to check? Do you want to survey many there? I don't see that Cmdrs are coordinating this survey.

I have an AspX. It is multi-crew. I wonder if it would be worthwhile to have someone crew in and show me what to do?

Thanks.

Yes the more detailed guide will be coming soon, once we understand more about what the new planets can tell us. However at the same time, finding these guys doesn't rely on knowing the temp or mineral makeup. Temps do help when it comes to organics though. Also, I tried to distill what searching for these things are at their basic level. What is the most important info needed and that is what I put in. With the info and the links in their you should have no issues, outside of Fdev's own logic, in finding these. Also left it out because I figured most people knew where to look for planetary info....if not, then yes, the next guide will add that little bit of info.

Uh don't mind me - I haz the dumb.
I didn't have a detailed surface scanner on board so it looks like it's scanning, but you don't get all the info.
My DBX must have been that way since last November when I swapped it out for a research limpet controller.

Just realized I wasn't allowing you to edit the LGAN sheets, that has changed so you should now be able to add the info of your searches. Sorry and thank you.

Hello, Cmdr MadRaptor,

I'm not very familiar with using Google Docs, but I'd expect a spreadsheet to be self-explanatory. But, I must confess, that I don't see how to use the LGAN sheets. I see one sheet, that has blocks on it with the different regions to explore. I don't see a format to use; I don't see columns for system information. There must be other sheets that I'm looking for, but I don't see how to access multiple sheets in the web UI to Google Docs. Are there other sheets there?

BTW, maybe I can ask here since I can't find an answer elsewhere: how do you generate a planetary map that gets added to the System Map? As I explore a system, I discover new planets and I fly over them a little bit. I have an 1C Detailed Surface Scanner. Do I need some other equipment?

Oh, another question occurs to me: how much of this discovery data management is automated? I assume it goes into the FD BGS for other Cmdrs to access. I use EDDiscovery. Does connecting to that automatically provide data to you and others? I suppose I should spend more time looking at tutorials on exploration. :)

Well, my question is moot now. After about a week exploring around Pipe(Bowl) and seeing players or NPCs, I was suddenly attacked by a Chieftain. A novice NPC, but I couldn't put enough into it to destroy it, and it destroyed me. Gone are data on systems and cargo found along the way. Nothing of great note in particular. No POIs. No volcanism. I did get pictures with names, stored on my PC.

If you hover your mouse over the area of the sheets you are exploring you will get a link to the corresponding sheet. From there you can put in all required info and once a week I compile that data and move it to the official sheets. Or you can simply just select from the tabs available along the bottom of the sheet and then follow the same rules.

The planetary map should be created once you finish the detailed surface scan.

Before you land on a planet just select and point at it until the detailed surface scan completes then you will get all the info and the planetary map.

All the info we have is really just for us, no database outside of the MWSOG except for organic sites which Canonn mantains as well. I used EDDiscovery as well and occasiaonally we will upload a list of sites to the GMP and they add it to their maps and what not. Hope this helps and hope to see you in the black if anything when you get back out there hope to see some good finds. Good luck CMDR and fly safe
