General L outposts and stations without mail slot

I've reinstalled elite to try colonization. While delivering cargo I've noticed something interesting:

Delivery between traiblazer ship and build sites (orbital/suface) is a lot more fun than dealing with mail slot stations. The landing pads on orbital construction yard do not try to turn you around, you can quickly blast off from them, and be gone in seconds. Even in type-9. Orbital construction yard is specifically interesting, because you need to navigate around it.

In comparison, mail slot stations waste a lot of time. They turn your ship around (animation), if you use autopilot, the game often requires you to wait. Quick blastoff is not possible.

Therefore:
  • Would be nice to have orbital outposts with L pads.
  • Would be nice to have stations without mail slot. It was a nice nod to the original game but compared to orbital yard landings, it doesn't seem to produce the same amount of fun.

So far, that's a "feature" exclusive to non-large ships. It's called "Medium stations". Some people fly medium ships purely for that reason.

You'll still need to deal with mail slots and time wasting even in mediums.

The main issue is that while dealing with mailslots, I'm bored. While flying between carrier and construction yard, I'm not bored. The difference in entertainment is quite large, hence the proposal. The main point of the proposal is that it would be great to have to have fewer pads with "storage" that spin ships around, fewer mailslots and more simple pads where you can just plop your ship and then blast away in seconds. Because this is more fun.

It is also quite interesting that when you are building a settlement, the building site has a basic L landing pad on construction yard, which then disappears when the settlement is complete. Why not setup some landing another L pad, once they're done? It is just a square on the ground.
