I assume everyone has seen BIS's new video. For those that haven't, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOmz3aFA7K0
Essentially, at the end of the video, he made a criticism regarding the lack of variety of dinosaurs. Why do we need 5 Ceratopsians? Why do we need 10+ Thyreophora (the sub-group of ornithiscia that includes the stegasurians and ankylosaurians)? The same could be said for the Hadrosaurs and Sauropods but to a lesser extent.
We are also getting 3 dinosaur genus' that most likely belong to the same genus. Stygimoloch and Dracorex, according to most paleontologists, are juvenile forms of the Pachycephalosaurus genus. There is good evidence to support this. If Dracorex is your favourite dinosaur genus, I'm sorry to say that your favourite dinosaur is most likely the juvinile form of another genus. There is also contention about whether Torosaurus and Triceratops are seperate genus' as well but thats another story. The point is; I very much understand that JP/JW aren't scientifically accurate due to cannon issues, but they certainly don't have to willfully contribute to further public confusion (ie; that deinonychus) about dinosaurs. Need I remind you that the original book/movie attemtped to be as scientifically accurate as possible. This current trend of purposefully creating inaccurate movie monsters is the antithesis of Michael Crichtons (and Steven Spielberg to a lesser degree's) original goal. Dinosaurs do not need to be made 'more exciting'; that's literally the main theme of Jurassic World the movie and that irony appears to be lost on most of the public.
Anyway, the whole point of this post is about dinosaur variety. Where are the small bipedal herbivores? Where are the basal theropods? Where is Therizinosaurus? Where are the other large large theropods? It's kind of upsetting that JPOG had a better variety of dinosaurs. I get there's DLC coming down the line; I don't need to be reminded. What I don't like is that in order to appease the people asking for 60+ species, they've ended up making 42 dinosaurs based on roughly 10-15 different models.
I honestly understand how a criticism of too many dinosaur species could be perceived, but seriously? I also understand that Frontier has had a limited timeframe. They look great and for the most part they move well. I would like some more variety.
