Lack of dinosaur variety

I assume everyone has seen BIS's new video. For those that haven't, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOmz3aFA7K0

Essentially, at the end of the video, he made a criticism regarding the lack of variety of dinosaurs. Why do we need 5 Ceratopsians? Why do we need 10+ Thyreophora (the sub-group of ornithiscia that includes the stegasurians and ankylosaurians)? The same could be said for the Hadrosaurs and Sauropods but to a lesser extent.

We are also getting 3 dinosaur genus' that most likely belong to the same genus. Stygimoloch and Dracorex, according to most paleontologists, are juvenile forms of the Pachycephalosaurus genus. There is good evidence to support this. If Dracorex is your favourite dinosaur genus, I'm sorry to say that your favourite dinosaur is most likely the juvinile form of another genus. There is also contention about whether Torosaurus and Triceratops are seperate genus' as well but thats another story. The point is; I very much understand that JP/JW aren't scientifically accurate due to cannon issues, but they certainly don't have to willfully contribute to further public confusion (ie; that deinonychus) about dinosaurs. Need I remind you that the original book/movie attemtped to be as scientifically accurate as possible. This current trend of purposefully creating inaccurate movie monsters is the antithesis of Michael Crichtons (and Steven Spielberg to a lesser degree's) original goal. Dinosaurs do not need to be made 'more exciting'; that's literally the main theme of Jurassic World the movie and that irony appears to be lost on most of the public.

Anyway, the whole point of this post is about dinosaur variety. Where are the small bipedal herbivores? Where are the basal theropods? Where is Therizinosaurus? Where are the other large large theropods? It's kind of upsetting that JPOG had a better variety of dinosaurs. I get there's DLC coming down the line; I don't need to be reminded. What I don't like is that in order to appease the people asking for 60+ species, they've ended up making 42 dinosaurs based on roughly 10-15 different models.

I honestly understand how a criticism of too many dinosaur species could be perceived, but seriously? I also understand that Frontier has had a limited timeframe. They look great and for the most part they move well. I would like some more variety.

Cause they will all basically move and behave the same so it's easier to do than making a bunch of different Dinosaurs and having to animate them all and make new rigging. If you are trying to get a game out to the public quickly then it's a nice way to cut back on world load.

Just be happy with the Dinosaurs we have in the game. They could have just given us the movie Dinosaurs. I am sure the variety will come in DLC's.

No idea really what the issue is, not everyone is going to be happy at all the choices because their random favorite dinosaur was not included. Yes some of them are a bit repetitive, but I guarantee it came down to time constraints, they have had 18 months to build this game from nothing. I personally like the choices they made, and even if we had ever dinosaur that people wanted they are still not going to be happy. We live in a day and age where we buy the base game and the rest of it comes down the line later. Frontier is amazing at DLC, heck we are getting our first one within the first 2 weeks of the games release. I think people need to relax and enjoy what was given to us, because we could have nothing at all.

I should add that my criticism of the current trend of creating movie monsters is more directed that the JW franchise in general and obviously is not solely Frontiers fault by any stretch of the imagination.

Make less species.

Telling someone to 'be happy' is not how this works im afraid. Try again.

Also the Stiggy and Pcy being a Juvy and Adult, the same with Toro and Trike have kind of fizzled down. At first there was a lot of Buzz because Horner stated it and well he is well respected in his field, but as people looked more and more closely at it, they realize there was a lot of stretching of truth to make it work the way he was clamming. He hasn't lost his credibility, but defiantly not on his A game anymore, he is like the old Movie star that will do anything to stay in the lime lite.

That is totally incorrect and a fairly baseless accusation. I literally just completed a unit on paleontology at Uni last semester where we disicussed precisely this.

Well damn I should be telling my friends (Who are qualified Paleontologists with over 50 published papers, and over 2 dozen species finds that it isn't true). There is very little evidence to support it, and if your university is teaching it, you might want to get a refund. But i am not here to discuses your poor education system.

If you had LESS species the complaints would be that they couldn't even do a good of a job as JPOG which is 15 years old. No matter what no one is going to be happy.

I honestly can empathise with you about this. PERSONALLY, and thats all my opinion can be, I'd rather they went the JPOG approach and had fewer genus' and more variety. When am I ever going to need to put 5 stegasaurians that look basically identical in my park? Especially if they all have the same animations etc.

I go to Monash University in Australia which is ranked inside the top 80 universities in the world.

I find it laughable that you would talk about how the books and movies tried to be as scientifically as accurate as possible when they were both dealing with the ability to clone Dinosaurs. The movies and books both made it seem like it was actually possible. Neither are very scientifically accurate and that is why they are called fiction and not non-fiction.

This game is not an educational game about Dinosaurs, the movies and books aren't either. The first movie had kids through out the 90's thinking it was possible to clone a Dinosaur.

People need to stop thinking the JP franchise/media is educational in anyway. It's not educational, it's entertainment. At the most a little science is thrown in to make it interesting and even then it's stretched.

Also, I don't know about you, but wouldn't that be classed a 'personal attack'? Again: pot meet kettle? ;)

There isn't enough. There is too many. This thread is another example of reddit garbage tier whining.

That's an incredibly lazy argument. I bet you could do better if you tried.

I understand & share many of your criticisms of the species list and diversity.

Still that should not be a hold back of enjoying the overall game. As at this point - It is a bit late in the game to fix it before release. However given the amount of upgrades/DLCs which Frontier will likely give this game in the next 12 months - I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually have at least double the number of species, and include several groups & families of dinosaurs which are not presently in the game.
