Lack of ingame information about Guardian stuff and materials is inexcusable

Isn't it a glaring oversight that you literally can't figure out how to get Guardian modules without looking at the Wiki and Youtube tutorials? That there is no mention in the Codex about how guardian data terminals give different types of blueprints, yet both terminal sites reported in the Codex give Module fragments, and there is no way to find out about Weapon and Vessel fragments? That there is no way to find out what type of blueprint you'll get from a site without prior knowledge? Also that finding Guardian tech brokers, or tech brokers and material traders of any kind without using 3rd party websites, is a time consuming, unfun, exercise in futility?

Introducing the Codex was definitely a step in the right direction. I'm sure Frontier will keep trying to help new players and players who don't want to have to tab out and use another website. I hope they change the Services tab in the galaxy map so you can see black markets, tech brokers, and material traders without having to have visited the system first - or at least show us one or two of each kind so at least you have somewhere to go, but leave the rest of them for experienced players to discover and use at their convenience.

I get that word of mouth and online discussion should always be a part of the game, but Frontier shouldn't rely on it as the sole way to explain their game mechanics. I know part of the appeal of the guardian stuff is that it's mysterious, and players had to figure it out and talk to each other, but does that matter when all anyone does is tab out and go to Inara?
Thanks for reading have a wonderful day cmdrs o7

Indeed, if they are going to be serious about training missions for new players, it makes sense to include at least one to practice how to get Guardian and anti-xeno tech.

Lol. All that information you found was found by CMDRs playing the game. Some actually like finding new stuff rather than being fed it.

This would be a great retort if it were easy to overlook the fact most of that 'playing the game before you' involved using 3rd party software and forums to figure half of it out. While the Thargoid narrative was initially very interesting, as was the guardian, it was far from accessible to a typical - or even adept - player. I for one have no interest in translating audio files into pictures. I don't play a space flight simulator so I can carry out my own episode of Blue's Clues alien edition.

It would not be a stretch for the pilot's handbook to detail the basics of Guardian Structures and clues on how they might function. The never-ending parade of 'Why doesn't the relic do anything?' threads for guardian SLF sites is evidence enough. At least the codex gives newer players a chance to locate an alien site without 3rd party support.

Sure. but the reality is that with so little to go off of, people use Inara and EDDB and follow Youtube tutorials.
People do that because it's quicker 🤷‍♀️

Lol. Have you seen the length of the pages in the codex. The C&P one is like 'crime is bad, don't do crime'. And CMDRs get confused by everything, so not convinced.

OTOH they should have thought it through more - the Guardian Databanks could have been unique and scannable. Then you would have one of each in the Codex - a Module, a Vessel and a Weapon Databank. And maybe another for a Pylon that explained that works. But hey, fdev, they don't make things easy - it only became possible to find Meta Alloys in-game recently - many still struggle to do that, so they use eddb, inara etc because 🤷‍♀️

Agreed, I continue to be amazed at how little is actually in the codex...especially when it comes to the guardian databanks. It just wasn't very well thought out - that or there are 'technical limitations'. I don't think FDev lies when they use the latter, but after awhile it rings hollow.

Then again, we could all be Star Citizen players wondering when they'll stop promising new features and start implementing them. I can't say which is a worse position to be in as a passionate player.

Obviously the game shouldn't hold your hand and walk you through how to get everything, but it should give you enough information that you're not forced between spending literally hours or days scouring the galaxy, or taking 30 seconds to look it up on Inara. Right now those are the only two options.

To be honest, if I hadn't heard about guardian materials on these forums, I'd have never heard of them. I don't mind a pointer here and there, you know, "Hey found this stuff - it leads to other stuff - let's follow this trail."
