Lack of Interest

So, I got home today,.... Booted up the game rig,..looked at my DK2 and had pretty much zero interest in playing Elite:Dangerous.

That Really sucks.... When I first loaded up the game and played on the DK2, I thought I would never stop playing. And as cool as it is to really feel present in the game, after almost 2 months of doing the same few things over and over, I am just bored with the game. The grind to make money to buy bigger ships to make more money to buy bigger ships to make more money to buy bigger ships etc. etc. is uninteresting because there is nothing to do with that money except buy bigger ships.... I can't build an empire or own a station, I can't join a union or a guild and participate in large objective based combat or missions, I can't do any meaningful or productive exploring...beyond point at a star or planet and wait..... wooooo hooooo. Money/credits should be a means to an end,...not the end in and of itself. Combat vs. NPC's is ridiculously easy, vs humans is more fun but almost never evenly matched, and anyone can just DC to avoid the consequences of losing a fight. Man,... sitting in the ships in VR is the coolest thing I've seen in a game.... BUt cool surroundings can only carry a lack of depth for so long. SO, I am left checking in after updates to see if anything has been changed or added (not yet far as I can tell). I'll check back again after 1.1..... I didn't really want to pirate other players, but that is probably the only semi interesting thing left to do in this game.... Problem with that is there are never any players around even in supposedly "busy" systems I hardly ever see anybody. Not to mention that I dont really want to deal with the coms panel.... I'd need to set up voice attack to use in in VR.... so maybe interdict and see what happens.... runners get splattered,.... people that drop their cargo live (maybe) ... I don't know what else there is to do really.... suggestions welcome.

I still play. Grinding credits.
Why ? Well, just in case.
I'm waiting for GTA V (PC). Then I'll probably return to Elite. Then I'll switch to Star Citizen *unless* I get some missions (real ones) and some exploration stuff (like, you know, finding something else than balls).
That leaves them (FD) with one year at least to work on the game. Which is not much when I see what they did during the last month but well, it was Xmas so ....

GUess I'll have to play hearthstone or arena commander between updates.... I am taking a break.... maybe played only an hour/day for the last week..... log in ...get to ship make a trading run or 2 kill some pirates,....sigh...log out.

I went to have a break on H1Z1, what a mistake that was, now Im waiting for GTA5 as my next break, so if FD wants me back in force there needs to be more content in 2 months.

Definitely time for a break. I had some vaction as well over the holiday and played the heck out of it. There is no doubt the game lacks content and can be quickly consumed. With the news of wings not coming out till March, I'm thinking I'll just take a long break till then...unless the 1.1 update surprises me with other gameplay content.

There are too many good games to waste time on something you have become bored with.

There aren't enough hours in the day to play all the great games out there right now.

I advise you to take a small break.

I bet in a few days you will be back! : )

Taking a break from any game is a good idea. However, it doesn't solve the underlying problem: There isn't much to do in ED at the moment. There's a serious lack of quality content. Taking a break doesn't make whats here more compelling later. Interesting things to do that isn't running endless rare runs or clicking a bulletin board is needed.

I heard David just called a meeting on this very subject. The memo read "Jaysan Cort needs more content!". Asses were kicked and ultimatums thrown down. The whole team is now on "Jaysan Alert".

^ now that is funny. As said above go play something else for now as there's plenty of other games to play and not enough minutes in the day to play them all.

I have to say that I'm in the same boat as the OP. I love the immersion from playing elite with my DK2, but you can only sit and go "OOHHH, AHHH this is pretty" for so long. There needs to be a game in there somewhere. Right now, it is just mind numbingly boring. Everything seems to be geared toward the maximum boredom factor. Scanning planets takes forever if you explore. Finding USS's takes forever. Finding a fight is damn near impossible unless you hang around Nav points the entire time.

I'm a colossal space nerd and was a huge fan of FE2 on the Amiga so I have to say I'm loving this updated version (planetary landings notwithstanding), but I do get where OP is coming from. Take a break. I did this exact same thing with Skyrim. Played it for weeks, completely immersed, got bored, didn't touch it for months, came back to it and re-rolled a character, played it for weeks again. You just need a break from it for a week or two.

Hearthstone is still too buggy. Try Void Destroyer for a space game fix. It's another game from kickstarter, now on steam and other digital download sites.
