Horizons Lack of protection in Upaniklis

So I want to join in helping transport goods to Upaniklis. Great, pop along in my type 9 to start shipping goods and what do I notice. numerous 'human' pirates with pretty much a free reign and ready to pick off whomever they choose. From experience, these folk clearly have engineered ships and do not hesitate with a kill. So what do I do, see one come up behind me and before the pirate interdicts I bail out and go solo.

So where is all the policing that you would expect in a system that is getting a hell of a lot of attention with basic aid?

Unfortunately, I am having to play in solo mode because this is the only way I can help the cause, and I suspect most others are too. This takes a lot from the game IMO and I would rather play open any day, but when the odds are so badly stacked against us why should we bother to go to the effort?

And besides, this would simply not happen in a real universe! Each convoy would be heavily protected!

I do also find it odd to see the Condola all alone without barely another ship in sight but that is another issue that takes some of the realism away. Again, this ship should really be heavily protected and have a lot of support and other political vessels representing Upaniklis surrounding it.

Anyway, at the very least, if someone wants to pirate other ships fine, but please ED make them work hard for the booty and distract them with plenty of NPC's!

Saying that I have been fighting at Haz RES sites in open and it has been disappointing to see a lack of humans. Maybe I am in the wrong place. I do know I am not good enough to take on anything that has been remotely engineered though so I cannot take on the pirates mentioned above. Looking forward to the day I can though :-D

Can you imagine what would happen if the in game police interfered with a superpower CG in the name of 'policing'? Our reputation would be ruined. Those gankers are there to prevent you delivering to one side or the other. If you actually waited for them to interdict you, you'd find that SOME, but not all or even most, unfortunately, will ask you to state your allegiance and only blow you up if you are 'misaligned', which is perfectly fair enough. If we interfered with that, our names would be mud, we'd be accused of supporting X or Y superpower. Go to a real hotspot, like deciat or wyrd and you'll see us (possibly not always a GARD pilot, but SPEAR in general, the player driven ATR). CGs are normally places where we patrol, but it's a political minefield when it's superpower vs superpower, just gotta let them get on with it.

err....

If it's a High Security system (can't remember and am not in the game), the NPC reinforcements will turn up very fast if you can hold out long enough. However, with uber equipped pirates, that's not a realstic hope. It just depends who interdicts you.

But OP, you handled it right .... kept an eye on your HUD, and took appropriate action when one tried to get behind you.

Thats a good point: High Security System!
I'd expect that any clean and peaceful pilot has a close-to-100% chance to stay alive here. No matter how weak.
If that makes the game too un-dangerous, balance the number of such systems.
("clean" should be a question of local jurisdiction)

I had some fun breaking through the blockade with my Orca (G5 engineered for speed i must add)... it still was hard, admitted.

I think I had at least six interdictions, tried to fight most of them, managed to win two. And outsped all but one to lowwake and get through to the "Embrace"... some pirates even did some nice RP.

I gave up 20 tons of beryllium to slow them down, whilst they would gather that stuff hopefully. Then another orca followed me, while I tried to recharge my shield in normal space boosting constantly... and then the pirates dropped in to the wake again, and they managed to make my cargo hatch malfunction and made me lose some more beryllium.

With my last low-wake I made it to the "Embrace" and still delivered 109tons of Beryllium.

Good blockade anyone. I enjoyed it. But I won't do another run tonight. It was tense - and fun.

edit:
and yes, some more players doing that protection part wouldn't hurt either.

play solo.

normal gameplay in open is trash.

open is for g5 combat ship pvp or powerplay.
Kind of agree. I managed to escape a human interdiction (which I might add lasted a good 30 seconds) twice in a row the other night in Uplanikis, then the following night it was the shortest interdiction I have ever known followed by the quickest death. must have been not much longer than 20 seconds in total! No way is that fair!

Medium, which IMO the devs should up to high given the circumstances.

Blockades can be fun, no question. And if system is medium.. ok.
But generally I feel that the security state of ssystems does not really matter. So I can easily ignore it, even when riding a poor shielded space cow through some systems. But in "high sec" ShinDez you unlikely survive Open when not in a G5 PvP build yourself.Only consistency : I can shoot anything in an anarchy. (or did I miss some substantial game mechanics?)

It also dictates how long it takes for Sec to show up, which is an important consideration if you're a pirate. This can be several minutes in Low and Med(?) sec systems.

But yeah I wish there was a bit more to it than that - ShinDez being High Sec is a bit of a joke immersion wise, since it doesn't make any difference when someone else pulls you over. While I've never played EVE before, from what I read the security state makes a huge difference in terms of what a player can expect in terms of PvP. Would be nice if it was a bit more like that in Elite also, which means if you venture into Low/Anarchy systems, you will need to be aware that you're taking a big risk (and vice versa with High).

What's the current status of the II? Who's winning? Where can I find the updated situation between feds and imps?

Checked the Thread and looks like the Feds are in lead presently.

Situation? All normal for a CG ;)

Exactly what I would like to see!
