Lack of social interaction IS being addressed

Since this was kind of buried in another thread I thought I would post it here. Devs are aware that social interaction is not working as intended. I'm a little worried about how this will be fixed BUT they know it's an issue that people are quite unhappy about and hopefully eventually it will get sorted. In another reply Bo asks people who see a persistant lack of social interaction to send in save files so if that is you it may be a good idea to do to help them see what's going on.

I'm going to experiment with my habitats and see if I can cause any differences in social interactions.

Once again THANK YOU Bo! I know you have a million different issues to engage with and it's not fun being the person who has to deal with all of the post game upsetness.

I'm going to try and play the game again with the mindset of changes are coming. And well if they don't I have some nieces and nephews who will still enjoy messing around with the game so not a complete loss.

Regarding the social interactions, we've definitely made a couple of changes there - but it could be that the likelihood of occurrence isn't right yet. Not all animals have them, and some species only have them between certain stages, like adult to adult or adult to juvenile - it's a bit of a mix. The code doesn't consider it a "critical/survival" activity (as in, more important than for example feeding or fleeing) so if animals are busy it might not be triggered. Another possibility is that the habitat is too cluttered or lacking in open space for the animal to find the space for its social behaviour theatre - so it won't trigger.

We are currently looking into this, to see if there's anything we can do to increase the likelihood of social behaviour occurring. We do have our first update going out later today but it's not yet incorporated in that one - but rest assured we continue to look at this and will let you know when we have more information about it.

Hope this better addresses your concerns!

I'll be honest and say that Bo's post didn't fill me with much hope. What we've got in game right now isn't a matter of just needing some tweaks. As I said in another post, it feels like the behaviors are either just random, or coming out of a very simple state tree. There is little intelligence behind it. I imagine for this system to deliver on what people expect will require much more work than just some tweaks.

I agree.

They are just looking into it to see if there is anything they can do about it, which gave me a bad feeling that this is not going to be added.
My guess is that this feature is "scrapped". It might have been buggy or just takes too long time to make perfect.
I even remember seeing the devs play, and you could clearly see the animals interacting. However of all of the different live streams I've seen now it's not there at all.

I'm releaved they are at least recognizing it. My fear was it might be such a major issue that they would just try to ignore it. If they are talking about it that means they think they can at least fix some of the problem.

Exactly my thoughts.

The thing is those interactions ARE there. They have been seen. So it wasn't "scrapped". I think it just wasn't finished. Having animals interact in a habitat built by the devs is completely different from having them interact in random habitats built by players who will do a variety of things. This should have been beta tested several months before release to give time to work on it. It wasn't so now the best we can do is keep encouraging/insisting it be worked on. This isn't a feature to be set aside, it's a core aspect of the game. If it had been scrapped I don't imagine they would have it in the game at all. I think they just didn't take the time to finish it for whatever reason. Anf since they already spent the time on it, it makes sense for them to finish this part of the game IF we all show we want it badly.
