Lag issues

Hello there,

I have a very simple question : is it normal for the game to lag ?
I mean lagging as for any server-driven game like a fps. I did not see any complain thread massively posted in the forums to so I suspect the problem being on my side. This also happens in solo mode.

The "lags" happen when going into supercruise / jumping, wenting out of supercruise / space jump, approaching a planet/destination, refreshing any menu item in starports, mainly bb and market.
I suppose these are favored moments for a server query.

The lags look like the screen freezing for a few moments, sound looping etc... so it looks like a lag imo of a fps veteran. Or the 'refresh' animation in the center of the screen lasting so long.

I recently moved and kept the same provider, but I had to install a powerline lan and I had no problem before moving.
So if there are no massive server performance issues, please tell me :) My time zone is GMT +1 (western europe).
I have a lot less problems around 11 PM in the week than 8 PM, or in the weekend (simply the worst).

Greetings,

CMDDDDDRRRRRR GanjaGanjaGanjanoof (this is what a lag looks like)

I have no problems. And if it worked before you moved and now it doesnt I'm guessing its your set up at your new home. Maybe a firewall.

It's really related to time, I just stated once more just now. So it cannot be my in-house setup.
Either server (no one complaining about it) or my connection (me complaining about it).
Heck, this can take years to make the request understood and accepted :(

Thanks anyway

Thanks again. I have to fight against my provider now. Like there is no warranty on packet losses, ping or whatsoever. And by the way, your subscription does not include access to the technical service, you only pay too much for a ****** connection. :D
Same provider, same town, only 1 mile away

If your still in the Starter System it can get pretty bad. I went thru LHS 3447 on my way back home last night in Open and it was a total slide show in Supercruise. I'm glad I was just passing thru, I couldn't imagine actually staying there for any length of time.

Thank you. No I moved to the Empire, around Atfero (maybe 50 LY "above" Achenar). And I started playing Solo for now given my connection issue, even if this doesn't solve the problem obviously.

Have you tried messing about with your router
No but I will try to reset it this evening.

So to clarify, this game is peer to peer based. There are not dedicated servers.

So jumping in and out of supercruise, the game will look for a connection to another player, if there are none, then it will load a local instance.

I would investigate issues on your side. If you try playing solo play, do you get these lag issues there? If not, then I'd suggest look at forwarding ports for the game.
You can forward any port, and then adjust the appconfig, to disable UPnP and use that port you forwarded. This should help.

Any provider in the UK that says they will not give you Techinical support, for a service that you pay for, i would ditch them fast. Go check virgin media broadband i have had no issues with them for years.

I wonder, could you be mistaking "lag" for graphical stalls? Take a look at: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=120331 and see if the symptoms there match your experience.

Is there any way you can try it without the homeplugs i.e. direct connection?

Where are the starter systems? I wanted to look for the planet I was born on but cant remember its name.

Thanks everyone for having helped

My English is poor
This is exactly what I was speaking about. Indeed it concerns superdrive, hyperspace, menu navigation, transitions between normal/super/hyper flight even more... but my game is 100% alright in normal flight.
I had some issues when exiting hyperspace like getting very close to the stars *before* moving my home, but not so often while it became alot worse *after* my moving.
Now, guess what, I rebooted my router this evening as suggested by STE and had quite a normal game experience for about 1 hour.

Many thanks for your help . I will now read through the many pages of the bug thread you pointed me to.

Cheers,

Ganjanoof
