Fiction Lakon Spaceways history?

Hello my fellow CMDRs.
I've been trying lately to find detailed lore (such as founding date and home system) about Lakon Spaceways, but I came empty handed. Almost no info at all. The only data I could find is from in-game description of the Asp Explorer, which is based on the Asp mkII, but that doesn't help since it's not mentioned who actually manufactured the Asp mkII and when Lakon got the license to manufacture them.

That's why i'm here. To find out, out of wild curiosity, more info about Lakon Spaceways. Is there even any data on the company, or the lore leaves this to our imagination?

Thank you!

There's very little mention of Lakon in any of the previous games. They are credited in the original Elite manual with manufacturing the first "Transporter MC15" circa 2500, at SpaceLink shipyards, Old Earth. It was the MC17 in ArcElite.

Apart from that they don't appear until Elite Dangerous.

The Asp mk2 was a Galactic Navy vessel manufactured by GalCop Workshops in original Elite. The Mk2 was replaced by the Explorer in Frontier: Elite 2, no mention of manufacturer or change of license holder until Elite Dangerous.

I agree I'd like to see more backstory about the ships and manufacturers, particularly continuity/clarification with previous games. Apparently this will appear in the "Ship's Guide" stretch goal of the new ED: RPG, but given that I expect that book to cost more than E: D computer game itself I think it's unlikely to be bought by many players. It would be much better if this kind of information appeared in the game.

Thank you for the detailed answer!
Will FDev allow us to make up some lore about Lakon that will be approved by them?

Well I think that would be great! But I don't know for sure. You could PM/email Michael Brookes. Or you could just start by submitting a GalNet article and seeing what the reply is. But don't be disappointed if the answer isn't encouraging to start with.

Personally I'm interested in this kind of backstory stuff too, so if you wouldn't mind keeping me in the loop it would be much appreciated :)

I was responsible for collating all the old corporations from the old manuals. Hopefully we'll be producing new content about them and the other manufacturers in the RPG.

In the meantime, feel free to PM me and I'll try to give some advice on what you come up with. No promises on canonising it (not up to me), but I can probably give some pointers so you don't go wrong.

Not that's currently published. There's references to earlier Lakon ships in Tales from the Frontier, a couple of references in And Here The Wheel, but nothing substantial about the company.

That will be rectified...:D

Only one addition.

First saw service in AD 2878, according to original BBC Elite manual. Lakon acquired the license at some point after that, presumably prior to 3200 AD. It was a military ship in the original game, not so in FE2.

Cheers,

Drew.
