Lakon Type 9 Jump range and costs

I will probs be upgrading to a Type 9 eventually, so here are my questions. Can the Type 9
jump farther than 14ly with a full cargo hold? If so, what are the costs to make it able to
do just that. What is the cost to upgrade up to a 532 cargo hold? And most importantly, how
well can I steam roll smaller ships when going through station ports >:)?

Some information here., I think you will struggle to get 14LY with a full load. As regards steamrollering small ships in the docking tunnel, it is excellent.

It will cost a minimum of 85m to rig a stripped version capable of jumping 13.64LY with a max cargo of 532.

However, it will cost more if you want to actually run it safely. And it won't be jumping over 13LY if you want to use boosters. And under 12LY if you want a shield....

But it sure can jump forever....

Be aware as well that, although it can jump forever in small hops, your fuel costs will be very large. A trade route I recently had involved two jumps totalling ~17LY. A full round trip would cost nearly 100k in refuel costs. A recent 6 jump trip I took cost over 200K. This is why I have sacrificed 16 tons of cargo for a good fuel scoop ;)

By comparison to a stripped-down version, mine is currently fully geared (A6 FSD, full size shields, weapons and 464T cargo) and has a 12.64LY laden range.

By the balls of great Odin! 100-200k fuel cost? I did expect it needing roughly 100m to get "operational", but
fuel cost and jump distance... Might actually skip that one, go Python and then for Anaconda. But I do want to feel
every single ship, so if nothing else I'd return to that one.

Or I could muster up to the challenge, get that Type 9 running in the best route I could find and earn the title of
"Trade King"! Everyone will rue the day I decided to sit several hours flying back and forth between 2 bases,
menacingly laughing as the bobblehead on my dashboard wobbles!

And no, I fly without shields ;)

1. Fuel cost? Fuel is free, suns give it to you freely. Use a fuel scoop, geez. :D

2. The jump range is very disappointing. Seriously, a heavy hauler should have a jump range in the 100s of LY. I ass-u-med the T9 would jump 100ly dead minimum, stock out of the box. 300, 500, maybe even 1000 LY fully upgraded. This thing moves 500+ tons of cargo; it needs to jump very, very far!

Yup. I think I ended up with an A4 scoop to maximise the amount scooped and minimise the time spent at a star. It hoovers up fuel at 250/s while sitting at 98% heat, but it still takes quiet a few minutes to fill her up after a long series of jumps :)

The fuel cost is relevant for me, because the challenge of reaching that peak profit is the
sole reason I trade. To find the pinnacle of trading. Losing the potential to carry that little
extra is enough to rid myself of any fuel scoop. Or atleast right now, I have no experience
past a week in this game and a type 7 :p.

Paying for fuel is lost profit too. You have to make your own decisions, of course. But fuel can be a cost, or you can get it for free. It seems often it's higher profit to lose some cargo space and run a fuel scoop instead.

There are scoops that scoop MUCH faster, but of course they require a higher class slot.

I'm positive you're correct on this, as I have no experience to speak of. Right
now my Type 7 only consumes 4k fuel cost per trip, which is more than paid back by the
profits of my route. That can and most likely will change with an upgrade :p.

The time taken scooping can also fit into the equation. I'll be re-calculating my numbers tonight when I get home, but I have a sneaking suspicion that, on my trade route at least, if I remove the time taken scooping, I can fit an extra trade run in every 3 runs that I do. That extra 1.6mil profit will easily outweigh the ~800,000cr fuel costs for 4 runs. but, we'll see when I run the numbers again :)
.
Or I could just move on and find a better route :p

500+ tons of cargo, profits will be huge. I wouldn't even consider slow boating my huge butt around a sun for fuel. That's just valuable trade time lost. By that time i could already be in station loading my next haul.:)

You will need a fuel scoop for every upgrade after the type 7. An A4 Scoop fills your fuel tank up in 10 seconds. It is a must have on python, type 9 and anaconda.

Im currently getting 18.98LY Unladen and 13.25LY Laden. I have a capacity of 500 tons.
My Power Plant, Thrusters, Life Support and Shield are all 'D' rated. The shield is of a lesser class though. Class '5' instead of Class '6'. The shield is ok for knocks, bumps and scrapes around the station but not too good in combat.

I also run an 8 Ton fuel tank to keep weight down as my route is only 8.41LY each way. The fuel cost is 10,000cr each way so a total of 20,000cr round trip.
It helps if you are Allied with the station as the fuel is much cheaper.

Can you bin it nose first into the landing pad (@ ~120m/s) without shields dropping?

That is my current lightning trade technique in the T6 & am hoping it continues in the 7 and 9 eventually.
Docking "the Lakon way"

Time spent sucking a star is trading time lost and the scoop drops you potential cargo. The only use for a scoop I can see is if you are exploring

That fuel costs seems about a billion times more reasonable than the examples I've heard so far, I hope I can emulate this.
