Lakon Type 9 Jump range and costs

I cannot frikin wait, this is the kinda ship I want to fly. My Clipper weighs nearlly 1000T yet rolls like a damn F-16. I want a super tanker.. Type-9 is definitely a love or hate ship

Right!? Seeing an Anaconda go through the letterbox looks really cool, being big and all. But seeing
a T9 do the same? Jesus that thing looks to be atleast 3 times the size of that "little" Anaconda.

The T9 is for real space truckers, only.

As far as progression is concerned, I would go T7->Clipper->Python->T9
The current clipper with the class 7 bay can haul (nearly) as much as the T7, but is also good for fighting. With the Python, the fun really starts: Decent range, outpost capable and a very good fighter. Also, it can be build quite flexible.

The T9 should only be chosen if you are really into trading or need some calm flights after all that Python action.

I would go for the Clipper without hesitation, if only it didn't need all that rep...

What about the Dropship? Is it worth considering to replace the Clipper in this upgrade path? (And I will definitely stop with the Python.)

Dropship is a downgrade.. It's a shame because it seems to handle like a proper heavy ship. Question for all those saying go for the Python, is it really worth it if my only goal is to get the Type-9? I have the money, but will lose a large chunk from the second hand sale. I only need another 15 million for the type-9, insurance and 5 mill cargo.

I have no experience with the Python, but I think you should stay with a T7/Clipper until you can afford the T9, unless
you have an interest of testing it.

The type 9 is a flying turd. Slow, manurers like a brick in mud and takes ages to do anything.

What you WILL need is at least 30 million spare cash when you go to the type 9. The default jump range is something like 6ly. You will need the 16 million class A FSD drive pretty much from the start... unless you have a trade route right on top of each other.

I think the cargo slots alone cost around 3 million. I saved up 30 million extra but it was really tight to gear the T9 enough for a decent jump range (You will need to put class D's on most other things from the start to help the jump range).

With 30 million you can get to around 11ly jump range. With only 15 million you may be stuck :)

Sell EVERYTHING before you trade to the T9, it will save you a couple of million.

Python was the quickest way to the T9. The T9 was the quickest way to the anaconda. The anaconda is the best trade ship in the game, even with less cargo slots (you save a ton of time each run and can get an extra 2-3 runs an hour in it).

The 256T cargo bay alone costs 4 million. Then another 16 million for the 6A FSD. You need about 3.5 million for insurance and then another 3 million to buy trade goods.

So need about 27-30 million extra if you are set on flying the space cow.

Yeah thanks, flying brick is exactly what I'm looking for. Have 80 mill, and 45 million if I trade in my Clipper, I really don't want to trade the Clipper, will save up another 15 mill. Jump range is not an issue, my main route is only 7LY apart, plenty of time to get used to flying the brick and build up enough for an A class FSD.

Clipper is the weekend sports car, Type-9 will be the money making 18 Wheeler :)

If you part out your Clipper and keep the hull, you can get the T9 and hopefully make that 15m faster so that you can re-equip your Clipper.

I'm in a python atm (276 cargo with shield and scoop), and can make about 3.4mil in 1 hr (3451238 credits in 1 hr 1 min 36sec on a timed run with no fuel cost as using a scoop). How does that fair against a type 9 with shield and a scoop? Anyone done any actual timed runs (not just extrapolated calcs)?

+1 rep to all you fine folks for this info.
I was thinking to go t6 , then t7, then python. However now going to go Asp, then python. .
That shipyard tool is awesome. . Thank you for making it..

You can get your T9 to 14.1 LY. Here's how...

I know it only has 404T of cargo but your gonna want the better shields. You blow the thing up one time and all your extra profit is gone and then some. Especially with wings coming out. Anything less than the class 7 shield generator it means your hull mass isn't covered. Which basically means you don't even have shields. Your shields fail almost instantly when attacked plus immediate hull damage. And I think (not sure) the hull damage is equal in % to whatever your shields didn't cover.

7 class shields: Optimal 1060T Max 2650T
T9 unladen/laden weight: 1137T/1557T

6 class shields: Optimal 540T Max 1350T
T9 unladen/laden weight: 1145T/1629T

As you can see with class 6 shields you are barely under the max when unladen and almost 300T over when laden but WAY over the optimal... which means they basically do nothing. or very very little.

With class 7 you are almost at optimal when unladen and very very far away from max when laden. Which means they are always working very efficiently.

Another nice thing about the better shields is that when entering and exiting the stations you are not worried about anything...well except another T9... or smacking the station while boosting out (yes i am guilty.. man that one hurt the bank). Nothing gets in your way of entering and exiting because they bounce off your shields like they don't exist. I was able to hit a T7 head on AND push it back into the station. Shields never went down.

I suggest about 105-115 mil before you buy a T9. upgrades are EXPENSIVE!

This is the build most T9 pilots are using :

Run the fuel tank near empty and then slap on an A4 fuel scoop for a run and fill up. Depending on the time taken I've ended up just paying for fuel as the time taken to scoop means I could fit in another run and it all evens out.

Hopefully FD will pull their thumbs out and make a ton of fuel cost the same regardless of what ship you buy it for.
