Land of Giants Expedition (LOGE)

The CCN Exploration wing is happy to announce the Land of Giants Expedition. An epic journey through the Festival Grounds, Orion-Cygnus Arm, and on to the far edge of The Fallows. With a focus on large stars pilots will find themselves basking in the light of stars ranging from Carbon Stars to massive Supergiants. Much of the expedition will be traveling through mostly untouched regions of space that are filled with clusters of giant stars of all kinds.

The route and times are as follows:

At Waypoint 6 FLOAGH YP-X E1-4 a portion of the pilots attending will be free to split off to visit the Looking Glass Nebula. Floagh MN-K D8-1 BC 1 at coordinates -9.8357 / 103.7008 will serve as a basecamp for those pilots. The Looking Glass is a previously unreachable nebula that requires Grade 3 FSD Boosts and neutron boosting to reach. It is recommended that low jump range ships do not attempt due to the risk of becoming stranded. Ships with at least a 50ly base jump range are recommended and caution is encouraged.

Pilots can find polonium near WP 6 at FLOAGH ZP-K B26-0 A 1 -2.3144 / -50.0964 "Giant's Shadow Silicate Geyser Field" The FLOAGH ZP-K B26-0 additionally contains all the needed materials for Grade 3 FSD Boosts.

The expedition will mostly take place on the Fleetcom Private Server or in Open or other game modes at the individual pilot's discretion. All basecamp meetups will take place on Fleetcom.

Pilots can sign up for the expedition on EDSM here: https://www.edsm.net/en/expeditions/summary/id/19/name/Land+of+Giants+Expedition

Ship information can be submitted here

Update:

LOGE has been pushed back to after the arrival of Mercury 7 Expedition. The new departure date is July 9, 3303. Registration will of course remain open. Dates will be adjusted in the flight plan in the near future.

The expedition will be fun! Traveling through the festival grounds is kind of neat!

For those of you going, iv a master list of over 200 giant stars found in the area. I have not visited any of them and will be asking for data and people go there so we can present our findings to the forums!!

It's definitely an odd region of space!

Just realized I had never mentioned that if there is an Interest in my list, I had cataloged (but never went to and so they are left undiscovered) over 120 Giant Stars of various classes that are near the base camps. If anyone wants to help me survey these areas for "Cool" things in July let me know!!

This one might be a nice good one after the very long Shepard Mission ends on may 5th. Was originally not going to sign up because of date conflicts with Shepard, but this new date might work great! We have a few Giant experts on the Shepard Mission who might also join in!

I'm in. I will join you. Bringing a new ship this time.... putting The Temptress in long term preservation storage. That being said, I'm also planning a short independent trip to the Lin-Shu Hollow and the Aether Cluster once I return. That should only take two weeks after I finish engineering the new ship. Should be able to make it to Colonia in time for departure.

Looks like a nice mission! I am unfortunately unable to rep you more ;) - and even worse, I won't make it to Colonia in time to take part :(.

I will however be eagerly standing by to add any interesting finds or oddities from the Land of Giants to the mapping project :D

You're not the only one. Already signed up; after 6 months in the black, I'm sure that the two between our return and the departure of LOGE will be more than enough for me to get sick of interdictions [yesnod]

I like the look of this mission and some of those waypoints and basecamps look cool. Missed this entirely as I'm on holiday all next week but I did look and think "seriously?". No iconic meet-up starting point at Betelgeuse or Vy Canis Majoris?

To be honest I've been waiting a while for someone to suggest re-creating a smaller version of the Sag A* jump at Vy Canis. My idea that I haven't spoken aloud was to have everyone congregate at the same patch of space at the same time but in different instances so we don't get death threats from the server devs [haha]. Maybe 25-30 per instance and then set a time on the clock for a sync jump out and try to set a record. Maybe for DWE2.

Anyways, best of luck, hope you are all enjoying it and make it back safely! :)

You have not missee it. The mission was delayed until early June!

Oh, in that case let me check my Schedule.... There's Lavecon where I need to be in the bubble ot run an event. I may be able to join the first few waypoints. I'll keep this thread bookmarked and come back in May with an update on exact timing :)

Well the focus is on Giant and Super Giant Stars near Colonia. Unforenately there was no Hyper Giants in our initial scouting of the region.

LOGELogoDraft3.jpg

The first draft of a patch for the expedition! Hafta get it approved by the big boss (Aka CMDR Alesia) but I worked all night on the first rough draft! Hope you all like it.

As a side note, I would very much like to find someone whose a tad bit better at drawing the Asp Explorer. Id like to replace the one I have above with a not hastily drawn one. Either I'll give it another go or try to find a better wireframe sketch of the Asp

Nice. Looking forward to placing one next to my DWE & M7 patches! Needs a T-6E on it, really...not that Asp "thing"!

Hello Alesia!
I'd love to join your expedition, and I have applied through both your google doc and EDSM.
I have only this slight issue: I'm carrying one of the Explorers Legacies, the "Endurance". According to the rules stated by Olivia Vespera, I'm not allowed to bring it to any inhabited systems, including Colonia, so I request to be allowed to join you on waypoint 1, "Eol Flyou WJ-R e4-43", will that be acceptable?
In addition, I'm willing to pass on the Legacy at the end of this expedition, if someone feels the call and is ready to bear the responsibility and honour :)

And the patch looks fantastic! Nice job very excited! I'm on vacation away from comets this week, but if you like I can hard line the asp so it isn't sketchy using Auto CAD upon my return?
