Horizons Landable earth like planets ideas?

Hi there Commanders.

Im' just curious there will be opurnity to land on earth like planets?
Lately I was wondering how it could be possible and here are mine thoughts.
I know that developing lanable earth like planets (not moons) wouldnt be easy thing and maybe, just maybe this could be possible.

This is mine little vision:

1. Planet have 1 or 2 bases only
2. While we are approching to it autopilot is turned on and we fly trough the atmosphere (why autopilot? because atmoshpere is dangerous and we don't like players destroy their ships and complaining "omg what i have done, mine ship has beed destroyed" or "omg this is so difficult that I will not try fly trough it anymore")
3. While we pass atmosphere autopilot is off but we cannot fly freely on this planet because langing base is covered by a protective field or a bubble (why bubble/protective field? because making all flora on earth like planets whould be very difficult or even impossible)
4. So we have this protective field, protecting a base with range 100-300km and we can fly only at this range (what happens when we try to fly trough field?
· messege that you will be destroyed by turrets or protective filed itself
· nothing happens, you just bump from it but your ship will suffer shield and hull damage, eventually destroyed if you hit hard :)
5. We docked to base, take missions and head back into space; so again we are approaching to atmosphere → autopilot is on → flying trough → autopilot is off and we are again in a deep space

Those are mine ideas how maybe it could be possible and what I miss in this game. Some of you will agree that moons are not very exciting, they are cool but in this huge space for sure people has settled on earth like planets.

Atmospheric landings (not to mention ELW's) are years away. I'm sure they'll come up with something to resolve the issue with civilized worlds (both primitive and advanced).

Just had a funny thought: Wouldn't it be funny if we could land on Nirn, or in the beginning area of Azaroth? Oh, the hijinks we could inflict....

We had that a year ago, and weren't we told recently that it is still in the pipeline(no work started on it yet) ?

I reckon atmospheric will be 2019 or later......

Nah they are working on it, that's exactly what the reddit post says. It might only be drawings they're hanging to the dining room but at least it's something.
Or maybe it's already done but they have no content/gameplay to use it for.. the actual planet is not the hardest part, the content it offers is.
They didn't give up the idea, that's all I ask for !

Maybe years away or not. Now we have Thargoids next we do not know. We have great game with so much potential.

To be honest, i would be satisfied if we get some caves. I mean we have vulcanos, so why we don't have any caves! I would love to explore them in the srv...

I understand that atmospheric planets are going to take tons of work, but I guess I cannot help but be saddened by how long it could take. They are saying years off, which really sucks. Landing on planets now is still really cool, so maybe they can add more to the non-atmo's on the sidelines to make that experience more fulfilling.

I suppose a long wait for the other planet types is better than getting a No Man's Sky situation.

yup as Leadfoot said, years away sorry. https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...hing_david_braben_cocreator_of_elite/d3k7yei/
But hang with us and enjoy the wait!

We haven't been told anything yet. There was a magazine article that said earthlikes will most likely be years away, but I expect that. But basic atmospheric planets could be anytime from this xmas and onwards.

FDev are scratching their heads about how to introduce more depth of content. They realize their mistake in not building it in from the start (I believe) but now have a difficult job implementing depth across the board with all the "tack-ons" they have introduced. So bringing in another big expansion like atmospheric planets, let alone livable ones, will be behind that redevelopment I suspect.

Disclaimer - this is an unofficial opinion and I have no contact with any FDev being, or even with the select few who have seen "wonderful things" at FDHQ but can't talk about them.

I suspect the people that create the planets will be different to the ones creating and designing the gameplay.

Yes, agreed. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the atmospheric planets are in a 'ready to go' form, but are awaiting something to do with them in terms of game play.

I would be totally happy with this for a while, even cosmetic details can make for more immersion. Landing on an icy world that can snow or a Mars-like planet with a red sky and red dust flying about, that would add so much to the feel of the landings.
