Landed in a Candidate for Terraforming Planet!

Hello,

I just landed on a Terraformable planet! :

The planet doesn't seems to be very special, but at leas it has some floating dust.

The only way that this dust ball can be terraformed is to use a MegaMaid. I suspect that the Empire has one in store, since Federation right now has problems with homemade Thargoids and the Alliance is too poor to have one..

There's a few similar planets listed in a bug report here, but it's working as intended, apparently.

If this intended, this means that there's some super Alien Machinery here (as in Total Recall!):

I will search for it..

Terraformables with no atmosphere are fairly rare, but don't have any particular significance. As far as I'm aware, planets simply have a solid surface, and within a certain range of temperature and surface gravity to be candidates.

Yes, they are very Terraformable, if you have some spare trillions tons of water and air..
:D

I have found a total of seven of these airless, landable, terraformables dating all the way back to the 2.0 release, so they have been around for a while.

In ED, altering the atmosphere (or adding an entire atmosphere to an airless planet) is considered an engineering problem, not a physics problem, so does not affect it's theoretical terraformability. All a planet needs to be a terraformable in ED is to be the right size, in the right orbit. You don;t find too many of them inside the Bubble, since most terraforming candiates have either already been terraformed or are in the process.

As for "finish the terraforming" CGs, they used to be a feature of the CG cycle. March 3301 had five of them (Djaujas, Dohkwithi, HIP 54692, Khona and Milelbis), and March 3302 had one (Vennik). March 3303 missed out, for some reason. Whenever they've had them, they've been successful, in terms of creating a new Agricultural ELW as a result of the CG. However, you couldn't do it to a planet that had a planetary base already on it. Unless you were happy to have the base disappear, since ELWs can't have bases at the moment.

It wouldn't disappear, it would just become inaccessible and change from an in-game asset that can be interacted with to a note in the description of the first base camps prior to full colonisation. Maybe accessible again one day when the base you remember has become a thriving city beside the shiny new spaceport. Which would be pretty cool really...
