Newcomer / Intro Landing at given coordinates

I want to take a trip to Dav's. I know the coordinates and I've seen the video on how to navigate them. The thing is, I think I have a mental block and when I tried last time I was all over the place, couldn't figure out positive from negative, going in the wrong direction... you name it, I epically failed at it.

Any tips would be more than a little bit welcome!

Cheers

I like to stick to 0/90/180/270

The idea is you travel on one of these headings. If traveling on 0(360) your latitude will increase. If on 180 latitude decreases.

Conversely, flying on 90/270 will increase/decrease your longitude only.

Any compass point 'in the middle' of these cardinal points has the effect of changing both latitude and longitude, making precise navigation to a specific co-ordinate more difficult.

So choose a direction, doesn't matter which, and fly until either the long or lat is correct. Then turn 90 degrees and fly until the other one matches as well. You have arrived at your destination :)

You just need to make sure you travel slowly in orbital cruise, work on one set of figures at a time (N-S or E-W) until you get in the general "ball-park" of the numbers.

You can see the location of Dav's Hope very clearly from orbit (and below obviously) thanks to the distinctive mountains that surround it. You can see them in this screenshot of an approach:

Note that you won't see the navigation target marker on your first visit - you need to scan all 6 of the comms uplink data points for your Nav computer to in future register Dav's Hope's presence (even then it won't show on a surface map).

P.S. Never tried the EDBearing thingie, seems strange to me that people need this sort of thing but then again I was sailing since the age of 10. So if it helps people then it is a good thing.

Thanks!

I also need to find the nearest station to fuel up. Last time I was two systems away but was hoping for a one-hop one. I could scoop but sometimes I feel lazy :D

You are lazy to scoop so you will travel two systems over and god-knows-what distance to the station to refuel? :D

You could call Fuel Rats. They will be delighted that you were lazy to travel to the nearest star and surely will deliver fuel to you. :p

So I got there (hoorah!) and have scanned all six data points. When I return at some point, will it not show on my planetary map so I have to follow the coordinate approach once again?

It will appear on your Nav panel like a planet base when within 1000ls. Lock and SC in like you are docking.

Once you are back on board your ship, check that it is there before leaving just to be sure you scanned everything correctly

Also, collected some stuff but could do with more. What is the "trigger" to get things to respawn? Exit game and restart? Leave planet (how far do I need to go)?

If I were one of our trans-atlantic cousins, I'd say I was super pumped to finally get there. As I'm from Blighty, however, I'm just a little chuffed .

It is called "mode switching" - exit to menu and then start again (I am told you don't ned to select a different mode now - have not tried it lately - if it doesn't spawn new stuff then you will have to change actual game modes solo/open/PG).

Yup, I've been there on and off all week (first visit on Monday). Engineered my FSD up to G3, and a couple of other things, too.

To the OP, don't forget to do some surface prospecting around the base while you're there. I've picked up a ton of iron, chromium, carbon and a bunch of other mats, as well as sulphur and phosphorus for synthesising SRV fuel. Planet A3 in that system also has arsenic.

I'm like a kid at Christmas. Bring on those chemical procesors. And Dav's is on my contacts so all should be good when I return.

I even saw and worked out how to refuel my SRV - without knowing I could in the first place! I love working stuff out for myself. Loving the game to bits!

I always admired this. And envied.
We, who were playing since the start don't really experience this and never have. New update comes? Great, what are the new features? Let's try them out. :)
Patch notes are like a pilot's check list for us.

But people who just come in to all the stuff, now and have to learn it at once... It must be intimidating. But for some, a great adventure.

That's awesome...I love running the 'Dav's Hope 500' and seeing what I get on each lap :) Chemical Processors are GOLD and I love when I score those.

Have not figured out refueling the SRV so you got me there.
