To me, in almost every screenshot or in-game view I have, ship landing gear looks disconnected from the surface, like the ships are just painted on a background. Mostly the same for SRVs. This could be because essentially we have models parked on a smooth surface with texturing applied?
Is it possible to force a shadow to always appear around the feet of the ships and tires of SRVs, when the lighting model is updated in Q4? The ships cast shadows but what I'm thinking of is maybe a double shadow- where the ship blocks light but the area just around the landing gear would also block light and make it darker. That along with some dust or 'dug in slightly' look would go a long way to keeping me from seeing this every time I look at landed ships.
Look at cars, they cast shadows but the shadow directly under the car is darker than the one further out in the open and there is normally some tapering off of the shadow intensity. That's maybe what I'm getting at. It could just be that the shadows are not dark enough. It could also be I am just used to seeing some wheel deformity on the ground, which we don't get with flat pads and doesn't seem to happen with srv tires.
It happens in most 3d games I recall, and a minor point, but maybe one that could be 'easily' improved as part of lighting updates?
