Newcomer / Intro Landing gear problems with Thrustmaster T flight HOTAS

I can activate the landing gear using L but I get a USE NOT BOUND TO ACTIVATE LANDING GEAR Message.
I have also tried shift 5 with the HOTAS controls. Also standard joystick settings.
I can't even find the landing gear control in the control list. Although I have read its L. And I can here the gear activating with L. But the system is not acknowledging this.
Is there a work around or a thread anyone can point me to?

I'm not really sure I understand your problem.
Where do you receive that message? Does the landing gear physically go down? Does the LG check light light up?

You can bind landing gear button in flight miscelaneous section of the controls settings. Try a simple button press. No shifts and combinations.
You can also try to lower your landing gear via the functions tab in your right-hand panel.

I thought that the L key was by default assigned to your (head)lights - mine is but I might have done that myself and yes the lights do make a clunk sound when you switch them on.

On my t-flight x, I have the landing gear assigned to the lower of the buttons on the far side of the throttle, button 10.

EDIT:

I got curious and checked the default TflghtHOTASX.binds (not my custom binds) and sure enough there we find:

<ShipSpotLightToggle>
<Primary Device="Keyboard" Key="Key_L" />
<Secondary Device="{NoDevice}" Key="" />
</ShipSpotLightToggle>

No default for landing gear though?

OK so as I leave a space station I first I get a message saying you must retract landing gear to continue. Then I get a message saying use not bound to retract landing gear. The landing Gear light is on as I leave. But L is not controlling it. If I goto the miscelaneous section of the controls settings for the thrustmaster t flight I get Toggle flight assist, Yawe into Roll, Flight assist off, Engine Boost, Toogle Frame shift drive, Supercruise, hyperspace jump, Rotation correction and toggle orbit flight. There is no landing gear control listed there. Am I looking in the wrong place? On my Thrustmaster T-FLight Button 10 is currently assigned to flight assist mode. How would I be able to manually assign this control or a new keypad control? Many Thanks for your help.

I did mention that there seems to be no default key set in the TFlightX preset bindings for landing gear toggle, I wonder if that is a bug that has crept in because I have not seen anyone else complaining about it.

I have flight assist on the 7 button (lowest of the three buttons at the side of the throttle) so as it is in easy reach during combat. I use the 10 button for landing gear as that is the furthest stretch on the throttle buttons so don't want to use it too frequently, it is also far away from the boost button (I use button 5 for that) as I did a billiard-ball impersonation in my first sidewinder within a station way back when.

To change the assignments for any of these things, scroll down the list in options, click where it currently says nothing or the binding you want to replace, then do what the window asks - i.e. press the button / key you want to assign.
