Landing on planets ?

My guess, sometime 2015/2016 if everything goes well and they are selling enough copies of the 1.0 version (which will most likely come out by Christmas 2014)

Hai.,

Anybody knows if it going to be possible to land on planets ?

Well if you do a little research in the person David Braben you'll find out he is a procedural generation guru.
Google a bit and you find him doing a ted talk about it.
So highly likely we're not just in for for landing on planets.
These planets will be something very special indeed.
Perhaps even something never seen before.
Is what im more or less expecting from David.
But at first you will only be able to do fly by's and slingshots.
Yeah sling shots :)

Thank you all :)

That sounds great .... lets hope that Elite will produce where Xrebirth have failed.

Have backed the game because I have faith in the game producers.
Been waiting for years for this game to come out.

To be fair, X never allowed you to travel to planets or outside their invisible boxed walls in any of their games. I also think there was a lot of unrealistic expectation for X Rebirth in light of the space sim genre reigniting.

To answer your question though, you will be able to seamlessly fly down to planets surfaces from space and land at space ports or just on a barren rocky moon. What you can do once you land is going to be worked out for the expansion and one of the reasons for not just tacking it on to the release version is because David Braben said they want to do it right. They also want to do walking around on your ship or planet right too, so that will be another expansion.

And in case you are not aware, they are currently selling the kickstarter digital download pack for I believe £80, until the 6th of december, which includes the base game and all future expansions.

Iam so glad I bought the 80 pounds package then :)

Everybody thanks for the explanations. Its beter to have this kind of things in an expension pack and that its working okay then that they hurry and it sucks.

Planetary landing was one of the main components of Frontier Elite II. It would have been inconceivable that Elite Dangerous, is not in the future, planetary landings

true, it will really be complete when that is in the game, not so much the ship interiors&walking around, but i'm looking forward for both. if in the end we can walk around freely on planet surfaces that will be a big bound forward.

I think I will pass numerous hours to fly over at very low altitude, the landscapes of planets

;)

as im also an programmer, ill support this work in every expansion. i know how hard it ts to produce stable next gen software that makes fun. so better see that they arent run out of money and support them further. else there may be not as many expansions as you whish.
