Landing pad locations

Hey guys !

With the recent speed docking competition I've made a map for landing pad locations. And outside the contest maybe that can be useful for some players !

It is based on this slide of the pilot's guide :

Maybe I'll also add colors for differents pad size later !

Remember that this speed docking competition still continue (it's just the official contest that is finished) : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25059

See you ingame commanders ^^ !

Why are numbers 13 and 01 swapped? Why aren't port numbers more logical? Why not use row - position method? So you'd know that 01 02 03... is in front and 61 62 63 64... is in the back?

general rule I used when trading was to approach stations from inside the ordit and outposts from outside the orbit. That way I could always spot the landing pad and never had to hunt for it

In stations you can ignore the numbers all together. Fly in and stay straight and level (spot the circle at the back of the station) Now look at the target marker (upper left mini radar with a dot in it) Now rotate and move forward/backward until the dot is at 6 O'clock on the radar. Now lower yourself until the target appear on the main radar panel to make fine adjustments. This is by far the easiest way to land and even those awkward pads are easy.

I know numbers of most stupid landing pads, but still, some logic to numbering would be nice.

Devs have commented that 01/13 is a "legacy issue" and will be rectified in a future release.

I love that there is a logic to the landing pads. Front to back and then clockwise then front to back then clockwise. Until you get to about pad 15, and then 16 is over the other side a bit, and then it reverts to somewhere else. Someone clearly went a bit mad during the numbers assigning job.

After 5 minute thought! I decided to label landing spots like this, i wonder if anyone will figure out my system.
Here's my first row example:
41 -> 1-01
16 -> 1-02
20 -> 1-03
26 -> 1-05
13 -> 1-06
05 -> 1-07
11 -> 1-09
34 -> 1-10
35 -> 1-11

Big ones should be in the back adn small in the front..

so annoying coming in and having to full-stop and go down on a big ship..

horrible design :p

Nice work. Pads right inside doors are a pain as you can easy get done for loitering.

Wonder if I can set this up with Voice Attack to remind me where it is, .e.g. say "Bay 15" reply "Bay last row Left commander".

Hey, nice idea!

I'm happy to just use the compass myself, I never bother trying to remember them, but getting VA to do all the memorisation would be cool :)

Wow! These are great! I printed one for reference. Thanks! +rep

Once you learn to ignore the numbers and use the lading radar docking is tranformed. It's easier and faster than trying to find the numbers.

Yeah I do now land almost exclusively using the radar my, method...

Enter slot
When target 'dot' switches to pad display line up dot in radar below centre on the vertical axis
Move forward/back until dot is at bottom of vertical axis then drop down onto pad

Yup, thats exactly how i was advised to do it too.. works especially well in bigger ships.. occasionally i'll see my pad number lit up through the letter box as im on approach or lining up to enter, but aside from that i never look for it now.
