Yeah I doubt it too but hey it was worth an ask

Budget is £300-£350.
If you have the space, you may manage a reasonable desktop for that.
Remember to check out the minimum specs. A lot more RAM than minimum and improve on anything else you can manage.
If you are the patient type and have a small degree of skill, you might want to think about putting somehting together.
First you need to decide what you are looking for. I, personally won't settle for anything less than solid brands. I like to start looking at a site such as Novatech. They are great quality, have brillint after sales and are not overly expensive. They also supply a lot of information. You can start there and decide what you want then look elsewhere for it. Amazon is always a good source.
A decent ASUS motherboard for a start: This is pretty keen and the price is not bad. A similar should be available elsewhere with significant savings:

A processor of course. But this MB takes a number of differetn one so in your shoes I might look at what is minimum and think of upgrading later:

A good PSU is a must. I like the Novatech brand because they are reliable and their guarantee is worth the money. Don't buy a cheap or a second hand PSU.

In Novatech that's about £300. You still need a decent graphics card. Shopping around, most of this stuff could be had for a lot less.
Sound card can come later. Remember, fans, keyboard, mouse, monitor, pastes ect., a case, (about £25 for an ATX case. Try to find one that has removable covers on both sides, but avoid fancy lights, bells and such. Also, some come with a PSU built in. Check its specs. You may save a bundle or you may be left with junk.)
It is the slow approach of course. I does mean you will work toward what you want. This is the approach I'm using right now. I haven't bought anything yet, just keeping an eye on what is available. I aim to have a new machine around the beginning of January for example. I anticipate some new tech by then which may mean I can get the latest stuff now a bit less then.
I will be starting by re-using my current ATX case and my PSU is only a few months old. I will also start with my current keyboard and mouse, even monitor.
Get the idea?
