Large dedicated combat ship... where is it?

Taking all dedicated combat ships and multi-purpose ships in the game it seems we are missing one at the top end just now.

Sidewinder - Combat equivalent is the Eagle
Cobra - Combat equivalent is the Viper
Asp - Combat equivalent is the Vulture
Then a bit of an ambiguous area with the Fed Dropship, Clipper
Python - Combat equivalent is the Fer De Lance

So where is the combat equivalent of the Anaconda?

My in-game wallet is waiting...

Fer De Lance.
Did you read the original post?

The Fer De Lance is the counterpart to the multi-purpose Python. There has to be a bigger dedicated combat ship that is Anaconda sized.

My friend already has 800m+ in his bank waiting for the corvette to come out.

That's a good chunk of money. I think I'm around 650mil, so not far off. 200-250 mil might be a sweet spot for the Corvette.

Why would the cost be more than an anaconda if the corvette is combat only? In the op all the combat equivalents are cheaper than the multipurpose.

The corvette seems like a good option, but the other examples are faction-agnostic; it would be pretty crummy for empire or alliance players to be locked out of the category.

That's true, so maybe 120m - 130m then. Or even better, make it another level beyond the Anaconda and price it beyond 200m. I want me some baby capital ship...

Players with tons of credits want the ships to be expensive, so fewer players will have what they have.

The assumption of the OP that "bigger should be better" betrays a ubiquitous and unquestioned assumption that pilot progression should be tied to ship size. Clearly the developers agree with this assumption and encourage it. Personally, I find the increasingly limited selection of "upgrades" to be stifling.

Are there really enough ships types in the Galaxy that we should encourage most of the handful of designs to be mothballed as pilots advance?

We're also making the assumption that credits will govern access. It could well be that it requires a specific fed rank and or elite combat rank

I think they should make about a dozen or so more ships that aren't clear upgrades but have slight advantages in certain areas over other ships, kind of like how in real life most cars don't possess any major advantages over other ones but have different features that different drivers may like more.

Mothballed for combat maybe, but there's also trade and exploration. Why shouldn't there be a best ship in each category. The best trade ship is the Type 9 or Anaconda depending on jump distance between trades. The best exploration ship is the Asp. There should be a best combat ship.

Nothing would please me more than a combat variant of the anaconda to reap the trader condas with, that ship was poorly designed for multiplayer from the get go.

There is a best combat ship. You mean another ship. Another best combat ship.

There are 17 ships in the game right now. Ideally there should be 17 different reasons to fly each one even if money was not a limiting factor. If we followed your logic, then there would only be 3 worthwhile ships in the game. That sounds incredibly dull , lifeless, repetitive and astronomically simplistic. There are many thousands of inhabited systems and yet every other AI ship is a cobra. I'm sure my graphics card appreciates this simplicity, but my brain doesn't quite believe that in 34th century everyone in every corner of the human universe is driving the same model of space Volvo.

Indeed, I am sure we will need a high fed ranking to get access.

Completely and utterly agree.
It is a shame that ships like the Sidewinder, Eagle and Cobra become an unfeasible option when you get further in the game.
I would love some modules/upgrades that would improve their usefulness somewhat, perhaps at the cost of cargo space.
I would love to encounter a Cobra in my Python, that gives me hard time. The only thing a ship like that can do now is run. It can only survive a few measly seconds of my 'beaming' attention.
