The 'which ship you like most' poll reminded me that I wish ships that require a large landing pad could access outposts to access the mission board.

I have 2000+ hrs in the game, and I find I spend the vast majority of it in the Python. This is due to mainly mission running to support minor factions, which means you need to be able to land on a medium pad. It gives me a reason to do the stuff you can do in ED. Without that, I probably would have stopped playing the game by now.

I don't know if this is already in the works, but it would certainly increase variety in ship use for me.

So what do you think...

Should ships that require a large landing pad be allowed to access outposts...to access the mission board only.

i would love it, if they had some shuttle ... or could use a fighter to do so. would allow them access, but would restrict them not to do cargo missions.

without any restriction, i'd have to vote: No. outpost access is something, which makes small and medium ships usefull, even if you own large/huge ships. at least if you are playing the BGS.

That's great, the title of the poll chopped off the word "only". The intent is to allow access to ACCESS THE MISSION BOARD ONLY. Sigh. Mod? Help?

Was an issue before horizons, now it's not a big deal at all. there are so many surface ports now, they outnumber large orbitals & small outposts combined. Even small population systems on the edge of bubble tend to have surface ports even when no outpost exists.

With all that being said, the devs stated that they would add large pads to certain outposts, that was shortly after early beta, nothing was heard since.

I'd like a ship launched shuttle, it would be nice to stop at an outpost and pick a mission while in large ship, however it's not necessary at all.

I feel it is still an issue, albeit a small one, because there are many missions you can't take, due to the destination being an outpost.

I've voted yes but i think how it is should be left alone for the moment, untill we (hopefully) get ship launched shuttles for a more immersive feel. o7

I think there should be outposts that are only accessible with small ships.

Missions should be adjusted. I'm seeing to many missions that essentially require a Python (is there an other medium sized ship that can carry 144t of cargo with shields?)

Dropship does 148 tonnes whilst shielded, the Asp does 120 tonnes.

Previous versions of elite have had shuttles and landers that carried cargo - I suspect they'll eventually make an appearance. It would give you some ability to access outposts and deliver passengers and cargo but by giving them small capacities - limiting the amount of cargo you could trade their at a time offset the size advantage of the ships and maintain the advantage of the smaller ships for trading/doing missions from outposts - which I think is important to maintain. If SLFs could dock to enable the delivery of non-cargo/passengers, that would be quite nice. I'm not sure whether they'd be able to code it at the moment though - they weren't able to code commoditiy storage which would be similar in some ways (picking up bits of cargo for a delivery mission from an outpost - they'd have to "store" the remainder whilst you ferried it to your ship. On the other hand ferrying people back and foward - doesn't sound to fun though:)

Personally though it's quite nice that the smaller ships have an advantage - stops the big ones being too dominant. There are always missions to the big stations too. I'm not too unhappy with the current state - if you're in a python you should be fine anyway - it's the perfect ship for visiting outposts surely?

Disagree. Leave outposts for small and medium ships. In fact, we should also have outposts with only small pads if you ask me. Give small ships a purpose.

I think the devs missed a trick with those small planatery bases +/++ They would have been perfect for small/medium ship docking & missions, even if it was just passenger or cargo missions.

Definitely, hopefully they won't have another derp moment when they finally put those asteroid stations in.

It would be informative if you could say why.

And here I thought that with this topic being discussed weekly it would be common knowledge.

Having docking restrictions encourages players to fly more than just whichever their favorite large class ship is, because they have to make a choice if they want to experience different parts of the game.

Player choices are important, and to make things deep and meaningful and give it a mystical vibe or whatever the hipsters are into nowadays, it's important to make those choices that the players make feel important.

It's called player agency, and it's what separates a video game from a movie. The more a player is given agency, the more opportunities they have to enjoy the game.
