Ship Builds & Load Outs Large Plasma-Was I expecting too much?

I've been running an FAS with 3x pulse, and 1x Large Plasma.

Maybe it's that my expectations were too much, but the large plasma doesn't seem to do as much damage as I expected.
CZ, or RES, strip the shields of FDS, Asp, Python, or Anaconda, next I get up close, splatting plasma all over the hull, to little effect. Am I using it wrong?
Should I be module sniping?

Exactly :p the plasma is only here to disable huge ships that are annoyingly resistant.

if you ever need more base damage, you can replace some of the down pulses by bursts.
for exemple:
- 1c3 burst 2c1 medium pulse
or
- 1c3 pulse 2c1 medium burst

I find PAs to be most effective against shields. On my DBS I use a single class 2 PA for most of my shield stripping duties then use frag cannons for rapid hull killing.

PAs are effective for module sniping, but Rails are better.
