Large Ship Docking/Undocking Protocol(Open/Mobius)

Hi Cmdrs.
After taking part in the last few CGs I have noticed an increase in the number of large ships either missing or more worryingly ignoring other Cmdrs. notification of entering or leaving port.
I have a SOP when preparing to dock/undock in a large ship(T9/Anaconda).

Inbound
1.Request docking
2.Lineup with the letterbox.
3.Give notification(local comms) of ship type and pad number.(T9 inbound pad 24)
4.Proceed with caution and give priority to large ships outbound (after all they are on the stations timer)

Outbound
1.Set route.
2.Return to surface.
3.Check HUD and surroundings for any possible hazards.
4.Give notification of ship type exiting port(T9 outbound)
5.Launch and proceed with caution.

But even after following these procedures I still find myself halfway through the letterbox only to see another Cmdr. in a large ship heading at speed straight towards me.

As you know it's not that easy reversing a large ship in the letterbox.

I have almost lost a T9 after another Cmdr. in a T9 thought there was enough room for both of us to pass in the letterbox. We both got stuck and after several attempts to revers and with the trespass warning ringing in me ears I did the only thing left to do and panicked and hit the boost button which solved the problem.

So Cmdrs.
Please, Please, Please keep an eye on the comms panel when docking and undocking.(You know it makes sense)

If you have any similar experiences or your own SOP please feel free to share.

Thanks in advance.
Cmdr. Simpleye

You can easily fit 2 of any ship in game through letterbox same time and there will still be a lot of room for small ships to go through same time. Just stay on green side and follow speed limit.

It is always good to see cmdr's in big ships on comms during CG's. Bulk of the time I've found it works out fine as long as you keep eyes on the scanner.

The problem is generally the guy's in smaller ships, they don't seem to understand the deceleration distance required for a T9 or Cutter. I run A8's with 4 pips and boosters on the T9, same deal with my Cutter.. If someone wants to get squashed that's fine by me, I'm under the limit at busy stations.

I'd be satisfied if the docking pad display would disappear from my HUD when I launch, I need to see where the other ships are around me and I don't have headtracking (as nice as that would be) to look around before I thrust vertically. I expect people to stop paying attention at a CG, some guys are doing run after run and you can easily get a bit....distracted, especially if you come into a string of empty instances and then all of the sudden you jump in and you're halfway through, dead center in the slot at 200 m/s and you realize you're surrounded my hollow boxes and the comms panel is lit up with "T9/Annie/Vette/Cutter outbound/inbound". You aren't expecting it because the last 4 trips you haven't seen another soul other than 1 or 2 NPCs. It's a normal error likely situation (if there are an HPI or safety pros in here they'll know what I'm talking about). It's partly for that reason that I wish most stations (dependent on population) simulated CG traffic volumes with NPCs, then we'd always be used to it (and things would feel much more alive). As commanders come in the NPC population would drop (so pads would be available, that isn't very fun).

problem with watching the comm channel is NPC usually flooded it with some random convo "hey officer, what do you need to scan me?" and all that stuff... which is cute... but gets boring after a while. So yes, sorry, I usually don't check the local chat when going in/out of a station. And I usually try to challenge myself the fastest speed i can reach through the letterbox on my FDL.............

SOP for docking
.
Has wife called three times? - Barrel in at full speed Damn the torpedoes
.
Has wife called one to three times? - get in quickly drop gear as I go through the slot
.
No hassle from the wife? - Go to loo while docking computer handles it
