Newcomer / Intro Large ships and small stations.

Something that's been in the back of my mind, for when I get a bigger ship. The smaller stations have no large landing pads, so does that mean I can't trade there?

In X2 and X3, which I used to play a lot, if you had a large ship, cargo was transferred by magic (explained as a shuttle fleet) without docking at smaller stations.

The outposts can't accommodate the biggest ships so no you wouldnt be able to trade there. I know you are ok up to the Type 6 and the Asp but not sure about anything bigger.

Yeah anything bigger than this then you need to dock at the Starports.

makes life harder if you can't trade with small stations, but hey. I'd have thought the station would have a shuttle craft or such to unload larger ships. Maybe one day it will :)

interestingly the federal dropship and the python both fit medium pads. The python is expensive, but the FDS is around the same price as a Type 7, although I don't suppose it can take so much cargo. It is however MUCH better armed. Just need to get 2 more federal ranks...

The Python, if you want to use it for trading only, can still fit around 284T of cargo, including a shield generator. The T7 will do 216T or something with decent shields on it. So for all it's worth, the Python is a better trading ship then the T7, but that is pretty obvious seeing the cost difference. But like you said, the Python can land on outposts and the T7 can't.

I'm flying a T6 now, planning on upgrading that to the T7, and then use the T7 to get myself a Python. But just note that the Python is much more fun if it's not equipped solely for trading, personal opinion ofcourse.
