I unlocked the large gimbaled Shock Cannon, sounded like fun. Tried it just now in a High RES.
I guess I don't get the point of this weapon. My overcharged multis take down hulls faster. And this thing has only 240 ammo, it's gone in short order.
Maybe I'm using it wrong? I'm just waiting until the shields dropped and then letting loose with the Shock Cannon (firing multiple shots as fast as possible).
Anyone else tried this thing and liked it?
Interesting... would you mind posting your build? I kitted out a Krait a few days ago with 5 of those (3 large 2 medium, all fixed) and I was able to cut through a Deadly NPC wing consisting of one Clipper and two Viper IV's easily in my local HazRes. Going to do more testing later tonight with them.
Ammo is definitely a problem with these - they way they are designed encourages spam-firing, but they don't have the ammo reserves to back that up. That and the faster you fire them, the more inaccurate they get, so spam-firing only works at short ranges.

Sandro did say in the livestream before 3.0 launched that they would have at least some form of Engineering at some point... but after the Guardian Powerplant Engineering fiasco, I don't know if FDEV are still considering that.
I got them yesterday, but not tried them out as yet. You can always synthesise ammo?
Yes - they have a synthesis option. Most of the mats are of the Manufactured type, though - best way to stock up on those mats is to visit the Mat Traders.
