Highly recommend the new Mark Craig documentary about US astronaut Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon. It is a very personal, revealing and occasionally moving account of the former USN pilot's life, based on his own biography (which I've not read). There isn't much for the technical enthusiasts, but lots of amazing archive footage of Gemini and Apollo missions, and some interesting Cernan family archive too - Neil Armstrong clowning to camera!?
This was the UK premiere at the Science Museum with Capt. Cernan present, plus the director and producer (Mark Stewart, son of Sir Jackie). A few of my museum colleagues got to meet the legend before the screening and said was a very decent bloke, a real priviledge.
Cernan is just into his 80s and has made a career of himself from what I can tell, but he sounded genuinely warm, enthusiastic and a great public speaker. Sad to think that his generation of pioneers will likely pass before they see a younger generation do what they did.
Also made me think that one of you Elite Commanders will some day be the first to walk on ED's virtual moon, what an exciting prospect...
