The tale goes as such… I had just picked up a lucrative contract off the Chango Dock bulletin board, hunt down a terrorist for a 125K creds, known locations were that LP system (where Freeport is), Styx & Eranin, I thought I’m already in Eranin so I’ll try there first. After launching, I headed for the main star in the system & on route, I was notified that the servers were going down in 10 minutes for the gamma, nevertheless I headed for the main star, then headed to the nav point.
Upon arriving at the nav point I quickly noticed that no ships were about, but within a minute of my arrival a cmdr jumped in (who shall remain nameless, as to save said cmdr’s blushes, oh & forum rules). I suspected that with the imminent shutdown of the servers, that this guy/gal would be turning their lasers on me, so I started to turn my ship to face them, but before I got round to face said cmdr, he/she fired on me. “Right” I said out loud & deployed my gimballed pulse lasers, setting full pips to weapons.
With a combination of tight turning & flight assist on/off, I got the aggressive cmdr in my sights, then I let rip, brought his/her shields down, got the cmdr’s hull down to 24%, before the cmdr’s shields went back up. My own hull was at a good 88% & my shields were still down due to all my juice being allocated to my weapons, but I didn’t care, I was working on a ‘it’s either you or me, mate’ philosophy.
I quickly got my sights back onto said cmdr, brought his/her shields down & then made short shift work of his/her remaining hull. I began to laugh as I flew though the remains of the cmdr’s floating debris & I laughed out “Let that be your last memory of the beta, you ”.
Now I’m no great combat pilot, but I can hold my own, being an alpha backer & cmdr Sam the Destroyer Youtube vids, may have had something to do with that. It might have been my combat skills, or the blown away cmdr just has poor combat skills, I like to think it was a bit of both. Needless to say, I then shut down ED with a big smile on my face, roll on the gamma.
