Last week the graphics were perfect. Now there are block squares on any black areas...

You know that 80's video effect: Posterize?

Well that now appears on main game menu and in game too wherever there are black areas. I've done nothing to cause it. It seems to have come about since the new launcher appeared.

I've seen the issue before with certain runtimes (601) and particular Nvidia drivers but the problem is back now and makes the game look FUGLY!

It's a severe posterize issue affecting black areas.

I'm using 500 or 501 runtime via the runtime switcher.

358.91 Nvidia but as I said... this was perfect last week. Best it's ever been.

Have you checked in your nvidia settings that it hasn't set rgb to limited, it's under the display settings somewhere. Did it to me once when I updated drivers.

I have nvidia and don't have this problem (using 0.6.0.1 runtime) but I do have problem with the new launcher since it is now much larger and can no longer access the "PLAY" button because it is off-screen on my 1920x1080p monitor. Anybody else?

Ok, I looked for that option but couldn't find a direct control for it on Nvidia menu except relating to custom resolutions. So what I did was reinstall the Nvidia drivers using the clean install option. The solarised blacks have gone and it's silky smooth again now. I forgot to mention that when the solarised black was present there was noticeable judder.

What you have to do is drag that launcher to a point on the screen where you know it will be visible with one eye through the rift in extended mode. I drag the launcher so it's about 2 inches from the left side of the desktop. Go into extended mode and I can access the "play" via left eye on Oculus.

Yeah I eventually found that out thanks, but it IS great pain-in-the-:):):):). I hope they fix that. Also, do you know if this update was due to 1.5? I don't see the version number anywhere and see no real difference in-game (including the SC judder issue still bieng there using GTX970)

Edit: launcher issue fixed by setting display scale back to 100%(though i dont know why it was not 100% before)

I updated my NVIDIA drivers recently and noticed it seems to have borked custom resolutions. I have a custom res of 1920x1080@75Hz, for some reason with the custom res timing set to 'Automatic' the resulting image is now a blocky mess. Setting the timing to GTF resolves the issue for me but on occasion the driver seems to mess up and my image goes blocky again.... not great!

Your judder is most likely caused be your video drivers. Over the months I've tried 0500 to 601 runtimes and initially 0501 was very smooth but 601 introduced some judder unless I reduced graphic settings. Then later at some point I went back to 501 runtime and had some judder present there. It varies depending on which Nvidia drivers. I'd been using the old 350.12 because that driver was supposed to work well but eventually caused issues. I tried a much more recent driver and had issues there too but now I have the best performance ever with 359.00. There is zero judder now.

I'm also unsure about version number. It says 0.4.4100.

I'm also

Yup, installing new Nvidia always destroys custom resolutions. Did you use the clean install option or regular?

The complaint I posted here about solarised/blocky blacks I have determined isn't caused by the Nvidia driver. It's down to the Oculus itself or the drivers for it. I went in to Elite last night and noticed right away the blocks were there. When I returned to desktop - still looking through the Oculus I noticed the desktop appeared a bit brighter than normal. I switched it off for a few seconds and when I switched it on again the desktop wasn't quite as bright. Booted Elite and no blocks! Crystal clear and no judder.

Whenever the blocks appear there is judder as well. I think in future I will turn the Octopus off and on before going into Elite.

Really? zero judder in SC? was also using 359.00 nvidia drivers. Which oc runtime are you using?

I'm using the Oculus runtime switcher so it's 501 runtime and performance certainly varies depending on Nvidia driver version.
