General / Off-Topic Last years Depreciated GPU advice for todays VR market.

I (finally) got a hard-disk, so now I can start installing more than 2 big games and organize my photo library (at long last).
My friend is going to throw his companies broken Vive at me for a token sum of the money (HDMI port needs duct-taping), and they got newer HMD's.
So my plan to finish playing Half-Life Alyx which I started a few months back, (and experience Elite Dangerous in VR) is almost complete.
However.
I must now get a modern, good graphics card, that won't make my wife's scream at me over the price.
So yes, I can google, but I tend to drift towards the top end of the market dreamily.

So I need advice from people with EXISTING but Depreciated HIGH-END GPU's from 1-2 years back, to acknowledge the more moderate deteriorated price but could still highly recommend them if they still run Modern games like Doom Eternal with the majority of graphics settings turned on as well as VR games like Elite and HL:Alyx, beat-saber, work simulator, subnautica......

High-end GPUs from just a couple years back haven't fallen in price all that much. My 1080 Ti's are four years old and I'd be hard pressed to match them for less than $400 each today (used ones are still going for 400-500 on ebay) and those who rushed to sell off their 2080 Ti's for 500-600 bucks may well be regretting it now due to the lack of alternatives one can actually purchase.

That said, you're probably looking at the RX 5700 or 5700XT on the AMD side, cause nothing comparable is anywhere near as affordable on the NVIDIA side. The 2070 Super isn't bad, but anything higher is hard to find for reasonable prices.

Yeah your best bet right now is the 5700xt. That's what I'm using to run a Rift S. The drivers are good now and you can pick up a Sapphire for less then $450. My system specs: 3600x, B550, 32gb@3200, NVME drive and 5700xt Reference card, Rift S. Depending on the game I can play on med/high with 1.2-1.5 super sample. Elite, SkyrimVR, Fallout VR ect.
