Late game, anaconda or equivalent, what makes me cash?

Interesting reading, some good tips in there.

I'm just in the process of trading my way up to a net worth of about 200 million in order to make the jump from my T9 to an Anaconda. I plan on using it as a trade ship in order to maybe one day hit Elite in trading and to fund a small fleet of other ships, such as the Clipper, Vulture, Asp etc. I already have founders world access, so that should lower the price somewhat for me.

I notice you recommend only a 4A or 5A shield, would this advice also be true for the T9? Would it be advisable to go for a lower shield on that also for a bit of extra space?

I don't think the T9 can go as low as class 4 shields

T9 with 5A = 170.57 MJ
T9 with 5A and max boosters = 307.02 MJ

'Conda with 4A = 372.98 MJ
'Conda with 4A and max boosters = 969.75 MJ

For comparison Viper with best shields (no boosters) is 178.5

Just wait until the Panther Clipper is released - should be the largest flyable ship, making trade runs insane with the right loadout.

In FFE, I used to fly one occasionally, with large plasma accelerator and all the other goodies, and still could fit over 1000 tons of cargo.

ED has altered all the stats markedly from the Frontier games, but the Panther should still fit more cargo than a Type 9 even when kitted out for running the most pirate infested systems

Yeah I've had an Anaconda since the beginning of january and never lost it to anything(knock on wood). Especially now since 1.2 when you can load it up with a bunch of shield boosters, and also nothing slows your jumps other than another Anaconda, you can get away.

Well I got my Anaconda in the end, although not without some last second mishaps. After spending hours and hours trading, night after night, I sold up the last of my goods, finally got the required creds and headed of to Shin in my Type 9. Arrived, headed off to Jameson and when I was just 20mm away I got interdicted. All previous interdictions in my T9 have been by small ships like Vipers, Eagles and Cobras etc, so no problems just running and jumping almost straight away. So I submit as usual, thinking I'll be back off on my way again in a few seconds and also feeling a little disgruntled that I've been interdicted so near the end of my goal. This time however I end up with a deadly Asp on my tail, I'm mass locked and not going anywhere fast. I have no cargo, so of course it instantly opens fire ripping through my shields in seconds. All I can do is chug along whilst this Asp starts tearing me apart and hope that I get jump before it fries me. Then my hull hits 50% and BOOM! Well talk about pee'd off! After all those many long hours hours spent trading in my Type 6,7 and 9, and I get toasted just seconds away from reaching my goal and buying an Anaconda. This game can be so cruel!

Anyway I got ejected back to one of the stations on my trade route and I made the insurance back in about 40 minutes. Guess I should be glad it never happened with a hold full of Imp Slaves. It was a tense second flight back to Jameson I can tell you, I even took some cargo to drop should it happen again. Still, lesson learned, don't get complacent or Elite will beat you over the head with it.

As for the Anaconda, WOW! The Type 9 delivered that feeling of flying a great big hulking freighter, well the Anaconda really makes you feel like you're sat on the bridge of a light battle cruiser. It feels pretty damn fantastic.

Anyway I am in need of some docking tips. Well actually the main trouble I'm having right now is getting the thing in and out of the letter box without scraping the roof, or the bottom when I'm trying too hard not to hit the roof. I've just spent a couple of hours running trade in it to try and build up my confidence handling it and I'm still scraping through the entrance about 3-4 times out of 10. I have no trouble actually landing on the pads once through, as all the time spent in the T9 has more or less ingrained all the pad locations in my head. I'm trying to find a visual indicator that I can line myself up with as I'm going through, but not having much luck. This thing just seems to want to gravitate towards the roof as I fly through. Maybe I'm pulling the nose up too much. I could get a docking computer of course, but half the thrill of flying this thing right now is guiding that great big nose into land.

Any tips?

Oh man I would have been so angry lol that sucks but at least you got the conda without losing a load of cargo on top of it.
as far as docking I made a video for another commander that was asking for tips landing the conda here you go

When I had my T9 it was only good for trading up to 25ly but it could carry 492t
I thought the anaconda would not touch the just because of the difference in tonnage carried
I was so wrong. My anaconda carries 452t but it has a trade radius of 60ly
I make more crd. out of 452t in the anaconda than 492t in the T9

sadly, right now the "late game" is kinda lacking, as in the only thing making you any kind of money is trading. Missions and bounty hunting does not scale at all so a conda is totally overkill for those activities. Lets hope 1.3 changes this.

I made 33 million on bounties and 16 million on the community goals for bounty hunting this weekend. Damn, I feel so poor now. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks; quite impressive. I had to keep watching the entrances and exits several times as you do it so fast. It's hard to get a feel for how you are lining it up. You're definitely keeping the nose down lower than me though. It's deceptive, it feels like the tip of the nose should be the middle point of your view but it isn't, which causes me to angle the nose up a bit as I'm flying through rather than keep it down. Looks like I just need a lot more practice then, not that I think I'll ever be flying it in and out at those speeds. It's hair raising just watching that video. You sir, have skills.

Just what I want to hear. I plan on making my Conda a bit more battle ready and start picking up some bounties in it. Done trading for weeks now, so time for a change of pace.

Try 452t with A4 shields... That's what I run on my conda and it's all you need for trading as you can get out of any situation fast enough for it to not be an issue

Thats what I'm running with 7 x shield boosters.. 452T so 1M Cr per return trip of 12 minutes.

:D thanks man! Just think of the nose on the conda like a drag car lower than the back. The other part I pay attention to is the light bands on the station entrance. Don't pay attention to the billboards but the two bands of light on the inside and outside of the door. Line it up so that the top of each band is overlapping and you'll know you're heading in dead on. Then give yourself a hair cut as you come in. It just takes practice I'd be lying if I said I could dock fast when I first got it. Catching the belly on the door was especially embarrassing lol. You'll be flying through there soon enough.

Thanks for that. Had to have another look at your video again just to make sure I knew what you meant about lining it up. Essentially you want the perspective of the top of the roof to be almost flat as you go through and keep the tip of that nose lower than the center point. Which kind of all runs counter to what my instincts are telling me to do as I fly through.

the anaconda is completely different as I'm sure you know all of the other ships place you right at the front not so in an anaconda where 90% of the ship is in front of you. It also isn't a slouch like the type 9 which is surprisingly easy to dock. It's a fast by all counts big ship that doesn't stop when you tell it to.
A couple more tricks to reigning in a conda.
the rear likes to swing out and keeps going despite trying to power through it with the rear thrusters like you can with other ships. If you completely throttle down she will come to a stop faster than if you actively try to thrust in the opposing direction.
Another thing you will see me do when I'm coming in to land the second time when I was coming in too hot. If you hit the lateral thrusters left than right, up or down or a combination it will cancel out your forward momentum bringing it to a stop sooner.
The best place to learn how to fly a ship in my experience is to find a conflict zone. Spend a few hours there and docking becomes far easier. Learning how to engadge and keep behind moving and stopping targets makes landing at a stationary starport second nature.
