Lateral sensor arrays

I would like to see some kind of system that would expedite the scanning of undiscovered systems... I believe some kind of lateral array would work quite well...It may seem like a trivial thing but when all is said and done it takes quite a bit of time to point my nose at every star and planet I wish to scan.
Thoughts?

He did a mock up of a set of development proposals for scanning and exploraion:

He has like three friends, not a lot of posts, and fairly ordinary rep.

And yet the dude is consistently making the most AWESOME content suggestions.
They get an hour on the front page - everyone goes "WOW!"
And then they sink without trace, because we'd rather whinge about paying for name plates.

This is today's suggestion for mutli crew:

Can Brett C or Sandro or someone at HQ at least post in his threads or give him a job or something?

There was more than enough content in the original DDFs to last this game 10 years. That was ignored. That being the case I see very little chance of any content by a random internet guy with "three or four friends" being picked up. Too bad since as you said, this guy/gal gives great suggestions.

Indeed. This "A year worth of Elite photoshop concepts!" of his should be taken as a goal for 2.4. Every single idea in there is PERFECT! Especially "home bases", equipment transfers - brilliant!

Actually, this guy got a special mention by Sandy in the last Q&A.....so don't despair. As for sensors, though it is only a baby step, being able to increase the scan angle of scanners will help a little bit.

That's promising. It is nice to know that the Devs don't just pay attention to the loudest players.

I copletely agree with your sentiments, as I indeed do agree with most of ToSoCo concepts, they are intricate, elaborate , detailed and quite sophisticated, and that is where the problems start.
Some of the Cmdr's playing this game would not mind a degree of control like in Arma 3, Eve or DC 10 Warthog, it is very sophisticated and detailed, and it is impressive what you can accomplish when you master them. Much of the development papers pointed that way. It did not happen.
I guess Fd thought that route would alienate the "masses" and deter customers.
What we got was an easy go to game, with a minimum skillset needed, to accomplish most tasks. Granted the most difficult is becoming a good PVP pilot, that was what the "crowd" wanted, and it is still so.
The average gamers attention span today is considerably shorter than 20 years ago, and skillz needed to play an average game has dropped relatively to this.
Elite has not been crafted like the above mentioned games, it was never the intention of FD, it is only us nerds that think so. Face it: most average people cant use a spreadsheet in any meaningfull manner, and you expect them to be able to navigate through panels, clicks to get to the right one ? They cant and they dont have the patience to learn it.
It is so with all activities, Fly fishing takes practice, being a good hunter takes practice and know how, being a low handicap golfer takes practice, practice, playing the above 3 games : Exactly the same.
That is you, I and some others in here can only look at ToSoCo's concepts and silently yearn
And dont think the pew- pew crowd, dont yearn either, they do, they also would like infinite more control and nerding and tweaking :)
In reality Elite should be published in to versions, Vanilia and Extended version, completely separated from each other.
On the other hand: This sunday morning has brought spring to my door and garden :) :)

Cheers Cmdr's

To be fair, though, a lot of the exploration ideas presented in that thread could be done in a multi-layered style, so that those who didn't want the full exploration experience could stick to something similar to what we now have, whilst those wanting more of a mini-game can activate the more in-depth features (like using your scanners to narrow down volcanic activity or locations of specific materials & minerals on a planetary surface).

Of course, if you add more layers, then you open the opportunity for crew to have a task to complete outside of "pew pew".
