Latest Annoucement and Posting Policy Changes

We did have a off topic thread here that proved very popular but someone had the smart idea of moving it to somewhere not so Straight forward.

I'd suggest that the forum should be reorganised a little. The stickies end up taking up almost half most sections so there doesn't seem enough space on one page. We could do with a few more sections.. i.e. a guild/clan/alliance section :D

That said this forum system looks like its one of those free off the shelf jobs so it might be difficult to improve the look and feel.

So if the mods are listening.. stop procrastinating and pull yer fingers out and sort it out. ;)

Uh oh.. I might have just annoyed the bosses and got me into trouble..:eek::eek::eek::eek:

:p

edit: also I noticed that the OPs name appears under the thread title in the thread list. What does the forum look like with that off? It seems to make it cluttered atm.

Seriously now....

I don't know about banning humor but what I think the mods should really clamp down on is posts titled 'Why ED is more expensive than SC' and similar posts where it clearly doesn't help any potential new comers/backers to these forums. There have been a few of these type of posts and I feel that posts like this should be moved immediately to the 'Other Games' or 'Off Topic' sections at the very least.

Also, this thread has been started in the 'Elite Dangerous General' section where it probably belongs somewhere else.

When does he reach in the back seat to back hand us? :p

I find myself on the fence here.

I completely understand that from the perspective of the Devs and Mods, the FD forums are supposed to be sources of relevant information and speculation.

On the other hand, I feel we're all going a little stir-crazy in the lead up to Alpha and Allen Stroud's thread acted as a release valve. If his thread had been tucked away in some corner, many of us might not have found it. It certainly brought the humour back to the forum.

I don't think this has anything to do with Allen Stroud's thread, its probably more to do with my Albion Online alpha thread that was a bit misleading and must have got a complaint :(, and Tinman's spoof dev diary post. Both made in jest but humour often doesn't travel well - so they were rightly moved to other forum categories.

Ah, I must have missed those two...I'm off to find them now, cheers :)

I think the humour aspect /might/ have been about posters saying joke things about FD emplyees contacting them (which never happened), about information that to us regulars is obviously daft (and never happened and is not true), but to people that are coming here for the first time might get the wrong impression. That's what I picked up on but I might be wrong.

It's a shame because I was in line to post a really rubbish (obviously joke) HUD. Now I better leave it :(

Generally I do not think they are banning humour; this is a very tranquil forum with plenty of mirth, as you know.

I think that's quite an important point. When the alpha starts, we can expect loads of people to turn up saying "I saw this video on Youtube, how do I get me some pew-pews?". That'll be quite a job to handle, and confusion/in-jokes/etc. will just make a rod for our own backs.

Hmm, does that mean the PBF is fair game for lies and misinformation?

I don't think humour was the main target of this new statement and as a regular lurker I have enjoyed those posts with their tongue firmly pushed into cheek.
If though someone has posted, say fictional events concerning Frontier staff they really have no option ,and must at least warn us of such things. I do however think it could have been better worded.:)

I think that Frontier aren't banning humour, just stuff that may be crazy and fun, but is also factually inaccurate... You should still find things on here to make you smile...
I read it completely different to that. To me they were saying that they would no longer tolerate posts that had misleading titles or factually incorrect content even if they were posted in jest.

I highlighted the bit in bold as that is the bit I suspect some were referring to as "Frontier don't want humorous posts". I don't think that was implied at all, they just don't want "disinformation" on their official forums, even if they are posted tongue in cheek. And I can understand that, shortly before their, and dare I say it, our baby is presented to the world with videos being posted on YouTube and elsewhere. The last thing they would want is people to come here looking for information and then finding some very odd but amusing posts that might be taken seriously by those that don't know are community as well as we do ourselves.

If you see what I mean....

Just to try and clear things up a little bit - your jokes and good humour are most welcome and indeed make this forum a fine place to spend time. Please, keep it up.

With regards to incorrect information, all anyone is asking is that people have a little think before they start or propagate rumours that could appear real to people who visit the forum less frequently.

Since it's made the tech news this week about people ruining their brand new XBox consoles because they believed something they read online, it would appear that people don't always check who posted something and how valid it might be if it appears to tell them something they really wanted to hear.

First of all, thanks to all you regular posters, I think I will speak for many when I say thanks for keeping the forums alive, many lurkers appreciate having something new to read in the lack of any solid information between newsletters.

Alien, it would be sad to see you stop posting, not just for the Avatar.
Naughty children... well the announcement made me want to start a thread

Alpha Release Date ?! (couldn't find a terrabang) - does that count?

Thought better of it, ... checked back later.
I thought this thread would be a little different. I agree with most posters here in what they have said, but you are all avoiding the elephant in the room.

Rather than pour water on the forum, why not just give some indication of when the alpha release date is likely to be if it is not this week, nearly day 11 still no sign after all. Wouldn't a better announcement have been, we're looking at next week, or ...whenever, for the release date, check your emails from that time. Set correct expectations, and then the humour wouldnt have caused a problem. Someone really complained? wow

I think that one is down to Frontier, F5 is worn out, 33% through Decmber and no official word. Ice maiden, not floozy I agree, but come on, some sort of official word is surely warrented at this stage?

...Okay, so we won't expect to see the alpha until a new forum unlocked...I guess we have another indicator to watch for...

Soooo, still 9.10.11.12.13 the most significant event to watch for on the horizon...
