I though the FF camera would just allow for a window to pop up with a video feed. But it sounds like they're allowing some kind of merger of the two realities.

So for me, the greatest use will be those moments when I'm in VR and that sudden fear grips me that my mother in law is standing behind me with a steak knife ... I could just flick the button and check without having to take the visor off. That's worth an extra £200 bucks right there.

Is it possible that the camera was added due the fact that the vive was marketed as being able to walk around a room. So I would guess fcc approval requirements for trip hazards etc kinda brought this about.

Saving hard for one but gonna cost me as need New gpu as old is hd5770 and psu to handle extra hp.

I agree Bishops, if you run steam VR with your oculus the setup has full room options, which could be hazardous if you don't have a way of seeing outside of the headset. But if your in game and want to walk around your room, having to jump out of game and go to the camera would kind of defeat the purpose of being able to walk around in your headsets.

Unfortunately, every "BreakThru" that Vive announces in my opinion only equates to more $$$$$$ for the unit, and the way the ED community bawked at the price tag for the Rift I suspect more $$$$ means more business for the Rift in the long run. All the companies making VR headgear need to promote the technology at a reasonable price this year and add bells and whistles to their gears once the consumers have accept the technology as something they need\want. I fear with higher price tags we may see VR go the way of the DODO again like it did in the early 90's

Good god what a letdown... we've had this for over a year with various FPV googles and it's a "meh" thing. I was hoping they had something that improved the VR experience. Too bad that camera can't be switched to IR tracking and then the reflective IR strip gloves to track the hands :)
