Latest DEV update from Michael Brookes is live (19/6/15)

I just want the line of sight radar thats in CQC to be added to the main game!

Yes me too. Would be fun in asteroid fields
Or they could make certain types of asteroid fields influence the scanners.

"The most obvious benefit comes from the income. We have chosen not to go down the route of subscriptions or ‘pay to win’, but we do need income to support the game, and so far most of that is coming from adding new customers, so it is in all our interests to get more people playing."

I think that is perfectly legit. FD has been in this difficult business for a long time. I trust they make the right business decisions.
So far I am very happy with the incredible space sim we got and I have seen it improve all the time with every update.

Soon http://store.steampowered.com/app/275850/ I think FD gives less infos about ED because they want to see first what this guys did, and "soon can be to late this time" since NMS is on steam now.

I don't think so. ED's customer base is solid and they approach to creating the Elite universe is quite different from what NMS is doing.
I am very curious about NMS myself, but it is a very different game.
From what I have seen so far I think it is more hype than anything else.
They always show the same type of vids again and again.
There is a huge potential for sure, but when push comes to shove we know next to nothing about the game.

Anyone with half a braincell can read between the lines and come to the conclusion that Microsoft specifically requested the functionality in CQC in order to appeal to their core demographic. For that reason Microsoft were always going to want a timed-exclusivity deal for their customers. We've known the Arena modes have been coming since code snippets were found in early March and Michael Brookes debunked the theory that it was anything to do with Powerplay. There was also this snippet from the May edition of the Official Xbox Magazine which lead many to think they were talking about the arena modes:

The Xbox One version was still at an early stage when I went down to Frontier, but I glimpsed some new content coming to Xbox One at launch that will make the PC crowd jealous, even though it's only a timed exclusive.

One thing is for sure, they were right about the jealousy part.

The sense of self-entitlement in this community these days is ridiculous. Not a day goes by where someone fails to post something along the lines of "I spent X in the Kickstarter and I feel betrayed". Well guess what guys, it cost many times more than what they raised in the Kickstarter just to get to the release version. Although the £1.5m kickstarter money was untouched until the 1.0 version came out in December 2014 they had already burned through many millions more than that by the time it was released, let alone in the 6 months post release.

If the game is to continue development for features like planetary landings, FPS, EVA etc. then Frontier need to keep bringing in new customers and if they need to make compromises in order to achieve that, so be it. The same thing will invariably happen when a PS4 port comes along, Sony will probably want their own timed-exclusive feature and we can begin all this pointless whining all over again.

For the record I was a kickstarter and backed at the DDF level and I don't feel betrayed in the slightest.

I really don't get all the hate thrown at console players. The few months of delay for CQC on PC seems to really rile the players. I would expect such impatience from less mature playerbase, but given the PC playerbase is quite mature (at least age-wise), I'm a bit shocked how FD has been treated on that. I don't recall FD ever committing to Alpha and PB backers to get first shot at DLC, let alone other platforms. The funds coming in from Xbone sales will certainly benefit the entire playerbase, including the PC gamer master race.

Here's hoping it will come to PS4 soon, as that will have Morpheus so I don't have to sell my soul to Facebook (OR) to get VR. And PS4 is a lot more powerful platform, no matter what Mr Brookes seems to imply.

On controllers: I've been playing on PS4 controller exclusively, and it is excellent. I use Input Mapper for rather advanced control mapping. For example, I've set shoulder buttons to be modifiers, so when I press RShoulder I can control thrust with the arrow buttons, without the modifier they control power distribution.

You can play the entire game without the need to touch the kb at all - including full menu usage, galaxy map, in-game UI -, except for screenshots - why can't we remap those buttons? - and text chatting.

Possibly (possibly) a HOTAS is better, but I can land elegantly and control my flight in even the tightest situations precisely. The way I've set up my controller the only inaccuracy is thrust, as I can only set it at 25% increments. But that hasn't been an issue, ever.

That's rather offensive, and that's something given it's me who's saying that.

There are plenty of complex, time-consuming, challenging and/or deep games on consoles which are wildly popular, some of them exclusives to console. Just some examples include XCOM, Dark Souls, The Last Of Us, and LittleBigPlanet. And Minecraft.

So just like there are plenty of PC players who play twitchy games like CoD, there are plenty of console players who play more cerebral games.

And Princess Duval is 25 years old, hardly jail bait.

Very well said. I don't blame Frontier for not posting dev updates in the forums anymore. The community has just become so toxic that I only come to check the dev update and report bugs. I thought the stereotype of the "entitled gamer" was more or less a myth, but I've had my eyes opened.

Just thought I'd offer some friendly advice about using a controller to play though... You shouldn't need third party software to use buttons as modifiers, the game allows for them natively. Just push the combination of buttons you want to use when mapping your controller :)
