Launch/Deploy SLF Keybind

Am I being an idiot?
I can't find it anywhere in options...I've check most menus under settings>controls (Fighter Orders most obviously) but can't see it anywhere...

There isn't one that I've seen, but keybinds for every other order you can give a fighter, including recalling it back to the mothership. It makes some small bit of sense, since before you launch a fighter you have to pick who's going to fly it out of yourself or your embarked crew. Although it would be useful to have a option where you could preset who takes the fighter out to streamline the launch process.

It's probably the one keybind for the fighter that you need the most urgently ..... and it isn't there  I think it's what damon8r has said.

I mean it wouldn't be hard to add a function to launch the first available fighter with the highest experience crewman on board with a single button press.

Expanding on this, I'd like maybe a programmable function for alert statuses on our ships. An "action stations" or "red alert" button that you could set to deploy hardpoints, switch to a particular pip distribution, launch alert fighters or do whatever else would make your ship combat ready at a moment's notice with a single keypress. Too much faffing around in menus when getting jumped right now for my liking. Maybe 2 buttons with preset/configurable actions for fight or flight, depending on which you need at a given instance.

I had a hunch that might be the case...its not a straight forward Macro to program as its very dependent on where you exited the menu to ensure it's "repeatable"
I've bodged one up to launch first available fighter with first AI crew member...but seriously Frontier...you CAN do better than this...
I NEVER have anything but good things to say about Elite...but seriously whats going on with this (I'd say something similar about Docking Requests...but at least that's not usually in the midst of a combat scenario)

Fun Fact of the Day : during the Beta, the Hotkey to recall the SLF was also the same to deploy it (which was exactly the right way to do it)

But instead of keeping a critical Input mapped, someone thought it was an awesome idea to have a time-critical combat function buried somewhere down in the heads-down Panel so you could do tickedy-tick-tick-scroll-tick-tick-trigger while under attack and seeing absolutely nothing anymore

I always use one of the ATTACK commands. I've got all those mapped to my Chatpad. I assume you are using an NPC pilot for the fighter? You can switch rolls if you want if memory serves. I'm in a Python right now. No way to confirm the last bit.

But when I was running with an SLF I always launched the fighter with the "Attack Target" or "Defend" command key binds.

You can launch a fighter with the attack orders? News to me if so.

Yep.

I used that method all the time in 2.4.

Have not tried it in 3.0 though.

You can? How does it know if you want to launch the NPC or if you want to fly the fighter?
I had not been able to map a key to launch fighter either, and had assumed that the need to make that choice was the reason for it.

:Edits: Now I think about it, I think when I was trying to set that up, we might have still been on 2.2 - I'm not sure I tried it in 2.3, and I'm fairly certain I never tried it in 2.4 either!

If memory serves, it always defaulted to the NPC pilot, and if you wanted to fly it, you had to go to the console menu and change who was going to fly the fighter. I always had the NPC pilot fly the fighter so I deployed the SLF like you would a Heat Sink or any other deployment using a keybind.

Now I am curious to re-equip my Corvette with the SLF to see if this still works the same in 3.0.

Ah okay - well I'm in California at the moment doing passenger missions so no SLF, but I'll be having a go when I get back to the bubble.

That's a good workaround (Particularly as I have the Fighter Orders controlled by Voice attack - Its Comms isn't it...so feels more immersive)
I'll try it later when I get home from work and report back on whether its still working in 3.0

I can't use voice attack without upsetting the wife so I use:
https://autohotkey.com/

I have my favorite PIP settings mapped and a few other goodies like Heatsink-pause-pause-pause-SCB.
To map fighter just record your key punches and script it with AutoHotkey.
It's free and it's awesome.

The issue with launch SLF workarounds is that (unlike pip management where you start every macro with balance power and work from there) it's sensitive to the state you left the system in when you last used it and it's quite context sensitive (not even as easy as the request docking macro where you just ensure you always leave the right UI panel open at the first tab)
So it's VERY difficult to map a straight forward down tab click click up type key press sequence to it...
