The option to change to the hmd will not be there if you start the game in desktop mode, it will only be there if you start the game in VR mode. The issue is that your computer is seeing the hmd as a second monitor instead of the hmd..

Did you try all of the options I gave you? The fix is definitely within the display settings area as mine did he exact same thing. I just cannot remember exactly what I did to fix it.. Sorry. It was quite a while ago and it only took 5 minutes etc..

I know this is th issue as you can see the static screen within the hmd and hear the game but cannot see it.

Try starting the game in VR mode, then when the static screen is showing, adjust your display settings on computer desktop to turn off the second monitor, or try using the keys "windows Key + Shift + left arrow " if your hmd shows to the right of your main monitor in display settings. For this to work, the game must have focus, press and hole "Alt" then single press "Tab" to elect the game window, then use the key sequence above " Windows + Shift + left or Right Arrow " to move the game window to your desktop monitor...
As I said, I did your steps before and got nowhere. I'm not here to be told to try the same thing a dozen times, so please don't repeat yourself. Windows+shift+arrow was new, but did not work, the display stays a static image in the HMD and a black screen on the desktop.

No probs mate, good luck sorting it out... I have told you exactly what the problem is, so keep working through these options if you want it to work.. As I said it only took a few minutes for me to fix mine... Good luck with your issues..

Ensure that all your displays are plugged into your Graphics card's (GPU) display ports ONLY.

Ensure that Oculus's "unkown Sources" is enabled.

Start DR Kaii's profiler select relevant 3D settings, then click apply, then launch Elite.

The first launch of Elite will take time due to elite building the graphics work table, any time the GPU driver is updated or the software is updated Elite's Gprahicsworktable will regenerate itself so the game takes a bit longer to load. Subsequent loading of game is quick.

Launching Elite from within Oculus can only be done if you have the ED key for Elite which you paste into the relevant oculus setting, this key is obtainable from Frontier.

Been there, done all of that.

I see the forums are a dead end of repeating suggestions so am requesting it be closed.

I am having the exact same issues. I have tried everything and searched every forum. Nothing seems to work. Every other game I have on Steam VR (Subnautica, Skyrim) and on Oculus Home, work perfectly. Except for Elite. Very frustrating as I bought a second account (I'm triple elite in my other one) specifically for playing on the oculus rift. I sent a ticket to Frontier and all they said was it should be working and to send the DxDiag file to them. I have yet to hear back from them. I can't find any' VR HMD Headphones' in the graphics settings either. Getting frustrated.
