launch from stations

i have a question and forgive me if anyone has posted it before.
when you launch from space stations isn't it stupid that most of the times a lot of ships going in and sometimes you can't avoid crashing into to them ?
is there a way of a warning or an indication that there is incoming traffic in the station that i have missed? should that be corrected and since i got clearance to leave shouldn't the others wait outside until i get out or what's the point of the timer to leave station ? Please frontier development fix this!:S

If you look at your radar in the middle, it will show ships close to the station and the direction they are traveling.

could you be more specific please?

First of All, I assume you might boost or use high speed while approaching or leaving the station...I think that's against the pilot rules, you should have a max speed of like 60-90 so that you can avoid being hit from unskilled (npcs) pilots.

Looking at your scanner is a must, in order to avoid any accidents. Align with the letterbox and check out if your scanner shows directly in front of you other ships. if the "dots" of your scanner are getting closer to the middle of it it means that they are approaching you and you shall have an impact.

Looking at your scanner can save your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To add to the posts, look at your screen, a diamond shape will appear showing you a ship if it is infront of the entry/exit window, also remember the traffic light system, enter/exit on the green side.

I must say a lot of us use the Green light side, but actually, I've read somewhere that the green/flashing red lights are used for colourblind ppl. NPCs do support the previous, since they tend to get in/out of the station from the middle of the letterbox, especially the bigger ships.

but, yes I do always "use" the "green side" too :)

Yeah, light don't work so well when AI craft enter in the middle.

Having docked hundreds of times and not crashing into other ships, maybe the fault lies elsewhere? You have radar that tells you everything, you can look out your canope and see what is coming and you have a throttle to prevent bumping in to them. Not only can you evade bumping into them, you should. If not please go to solo mode and practice before joining open. Btw: screw the green lights. Stay in the middle when docking and you can basically roll perfectly onto every pad.

thanks for all your replies i have never crashed in exiting a station ever but its stupid not to get a priority in exiting the station against the incoming ships since you have less time than they do!

The green and red lights are related to maritime tradition.
You are after all piloting a ship. When piloting a ship you show certain colours. Red for port, green for starboard. (Port [4 letters]=left [four letters], Green [ five letters]= Right [five letters]) so the Red light should be on your left and the green on your right when docking.

You have five minutes or so. You can let 10 ships or so pass in that time.

I've taken my time departing from stations many, many times. The timer has never come close to running out.

I thought the red and green were for navigation: Red, Right, Returning....Green, Right, Going. So you know which way is "up".

I have rarely hit anything going in or out on either side, i just hug the side walls and turn my T6 on its side and i tend to get out of the way if the ship comming in is bigger than me, and if not lets play chicken shall we.:)
