Launcher missed opportunity

My 2 main peaves about the new Launcher 1, the Launcher is way slower as it looks like all Assets are restreamed evertime it launchs. 2 everytime it give and error and i have to do a second click to log into from steam. I do like the fact they have the current patch note always linked, but i would rather not have i scroll down past the Huge Picture just to read the news. My bigest problem is the new launcher say it is not supported by the server so i canot log in to elite

I can just about log in, but my framerate has tanked to pre-launch levels. Frontier support have me reinstalling my graphics drivers etc but somehow the launcher update did this (fine before). I know this is something fundamental because I'm getting awful framerate in the MENUS to the extent you can't reliably click on anything.

Seems to work here (only one account to worry about anyway), but I can't see the point of it, change for the sake of change.

All working fine here but, I don't see the point in it. It's great if I just want to launch odyssey via my steam account. The old one was also great at that.

Unfortunately, now if I want to change game versions I have to click on VERSIONS and select the Game Version. Previously I just scrolled down to the game versions and selected one.

Also I used to use the launcher to get to the Forum as it was just a click away. Now it requires 4 clicks.

Can I have the old Launcher back please? Why give us a new launcher that actually makes it harder work than the previous one.

Considering the game didn't actually change, that'd be an interesting thing for the launcher to be able to do.

Start the launcher and a window comes up listing your multiple accounts. Click on one and the launcher continues to load for that account. Seems easy enough. Why Frontier does or does not do something we may never know. For me I log into each account then create a launcher for each as in EDLaunch01.exe and EDLaunch02.exe. Then I link them to desktop icons to start for me labeled Bubble and Colonia. That would eliminate any 'pick one' window should Frontier ever add one to the launcher process.

Well, although I think it's unlikely, it would be technically possible for the launcher to be re-rendering itself so hard and fast that it drains the system of resources. Like I said, I don't think this is happening though. My fans aren't spinning with just the launcher sitting there, and Task Manager shows it at 0% CPU and GPU.

Surely it's not storing data in the executable itself? Self-modifying executables are a terrible idea.

i have been unable to log into the game since the new Laucnher went live
@Thandco - sorry to hear you've been unable to play. i would suggest the following as potential workarounds to get you back in game.
If you have Steam or Epic, you must launch the launcher from steam or epic, not run it directly. This is because the laucher gets account details passed to it when its opened from steam/epic that identifies the steam/epic account associated with the game license. Steam/epic users also have a frontier account with they created on the first run - however this cant be used to log in directly as it will just say you dont own the game and ask for a 25char key.

If this doesnt help and you're still unable to get in, then perhaps look at the excellent app 'min-ed-launcher ' that was made by rfvgyhn, a member of this forum - its a small app that can be used in place of the official launcher. The instructions for min-ed-launcher are pretty good but the author and other users on here will likely be able to help you if you have any trouble getting it working

So it doesn't work, eh? OK, I'll keep using them while you figure out how it does work.

I would say the launcher gathers user info and stores it someplace else. When I run the launcher again it looks for that information then continues. No or different info then welcome to the login screen. Two launchers then 2 sets of information. You figure out the details.

After an update I use the main launcher and log into an account. Type in username, password, remember me, enter authorization code end enter the game. Once in I exit the game then copy the main launcher, rename the copy to EDLaunch01.exe and link it to a desktop icon shortcut. Repeat for the next account using the main launcher again.

My accounts were purchased directly from Frontier and all files are in the same folders so when I did update 15/16 for one account the second account was automatically updated. As for Steam, Epic etc I've never bought ED from them but could work depending upon how Steam and Epic controls the login process.

Regards

You may not know this, but recently Windows introduced this amazing thing called The Registry. It allows you to put all sorts of rubbish in a datastore accessible by programs.

Raised a support ticket giving recommendations that received a reply asking for suggestions to be posted on discussion forum to be checked by developers, so here it is :

Having triumphed over the various issues concerning the downloading of, what Microsoft Defender deemed an unsafe file, and installing same can I please ask that my following concerns are forwarded to the relevant department for consideration.

1) Please restore the original icon (which is still shown on the game.exe file) as the poorly designed icon now supplied with the launcher is more in keeping with 8 bit graphics and leaves a 'cheap' impression.

2) Please consider the functionality of the menu selection due having to now use multiple selections to access items that were only one click (hiding support and frontier links selections under settings?? really!)

3) Please revise the options menu that shows 'Check for game updates, validate game files and more' when selected, when actually 'Check for Game updates' and 'Validate game files' are found under 'Manage'.

4) Please consider adding a menu selection for 'NEWS' (similar to the ''VERSIONS' selection) that would preview all news, community goals etc on a separate page where individual items can be opened and read without scrolling the page which isn't currently working anyway atm.

5) Please revise the operation of the launcher once game is running as the only way to access any item such as the forum once game is active is to close the launcher and then re-open it. At the moment this appears to be the only way to enable these functions if the game is running unlike the previous launcher where all items were available.

The overall general feeling on the forum seems to be quite negative on this latest (cannot say updated) launcher,, even with the latest 'clean' design it still requires a more user-friendly interface.

Maybe the only time you must launch from Steam is when the game is first installed. I have a desktop shortcut that points to the launcher in my Steam directory and I can launch it and play just fine without having Steam up and running. I'm in game right now without Steam as I type this.

gonna be honest..... the launchers garbage.

Yes it works - but its slower - its awkward - takes more work than the old one. Glitches at times too.

Have to click an button to sign in when its already tied into my steam account seems stupid.
Prior I authenticated ONCE - didn't need to sign in or do anything.

Def going to look into other launchers at this rate.
