Launcher starts too long

Hello,
I'm new to this game, after I installed it through Epic I was wondering how long the launcher starts. It takes 1+ minute to show up, after clicking on Play it's instant.
I tried to move it to SSD and it's the same, so it's something with the game.

Does anyone know what to do?
Thanks.

Might be my imagination, but I didn't have what seems to be extended loading times until the carriers were implemented.

It usually takes a bit for the launcher to start up, I think because that is when it checks that you own the game and links to your Frontier account etc. Mine took about 15 seconds to come up just now, but it often takes longer during peak usage times.

As for the game starting instantly when you press Play I would be interested to know what you mean by that, since mine takes a while before the game loads and you get to the main menu.

Sad if it's like this.

Instant I mean when I press Play it instantly shows up and except some skippable video I'm in the menu.

I have found in the past that occasionally EDLaunch.exe can seem to be unresponsive for a short time, most often on closing the client. Lately I have seen very little delay between double clicking the shortcut and the launcher appearing - I have put the stopwatch on it and it seems to be 8 to 10 seconds - so I have no complaints about that.

At what point in this process do the Frontier logo, the Elite Dangerous logo, the "Preparing Shaders" and the "Planetary Generation"screens show up?

When I tried the Epic freebie, IIRC it really took quite long for the Launcher window to appear when starting it from the Epic client.
Maybe that's the time what it takes for login cerentials and login confirmation to bounce back & forth between FDEV & Epic servers?

It's offtopic but ok. After I press Play and the game shows up it takes 5,59s to be in the menu.
And here you can see - 1m20s until the launcher starts, another ~1:20 to load launcher info (it's not recorded).

That is Epic-ly slow - my machine is a potato and it takes maybe 10s for the Epic launcher to start, then 5s to start the ED launcher and a few more for the game to init.

And the ED launcher being blank when it comes up points to networking issues maybe? Since it's basically an embedded web browser.

So: No idea why it is like that, but it's not normal.
gl!

Factabulous: Thanks for the info.
Deserted-crib3: I got only this issue.

I also think it's not normal. I could also try NVME SSD but I think it will be the same. ATM it's on SATA SSD 550/500 speed. There is more than 50% free RAM memory and the connection is also free-non used and it's 400Mbps.

Thank you for your help Factabulous :) .
I'll try their support then.

If someone is free to add me and give me sometimes some guidance I'll be happy. Across more than 72 systems I found only a few people and it becomes frustrating 🙃

Definitely looks like a Networking/account verification issue. When was the last time you restarted your modem and router?

What happens when you try to launch the game by first opening the Epic Launcher, then click on Elite? Might help show up where the issue lies, by clicking the desktop icon you are doing two things at once, and it is difficult to tell where the issue might be.

Also, what does a speedtest.net speedtest look like? Does it give you the expected results?

I tried to open the game with Epic off and on, there is no difference.

Newer player here, and I have about a 7 minute start up time from when I hit play on the launcher. I have an older cpu so figured that's a big part along with older hd. It's I5 2500k, 16gigs ram, gtx 1660 oc.

I am usually fine with it and will go do something else for a few then come back, but times with either connection or server issues it can be frustrating to try to load back in repeatedly with that insane long time it takes.

I deal with it though, due to the fact that I am completely addicted to the game'=) Wish I had found it sooner!
Good luck and if I end up fixing it on my end will try to help with info.

.....

I just sat through that - (another 2:23 I'll never get back ;) ) - that is awful.

There seems to be a communication issue in that the launcher details are not loading even after it actually appears - perhaps the prior delay before the launcher appearing at all is also communications related. The fact that you have Steam running and the launcher is "Epic" badged - does that mean that it is communicating via two servers before it even reaches Frontier's AWS system? (I don't have the Epic version - too many alts already.)

Have you tried observing the "processes" and the "details" (EDLaunche.exe appears there instantly for me) panels of Task Manager whilst this is going on - bringing up the Resource monitor to see what EDLaunch.exe is actually trying to do during the delays might help too.

Hopefully support will be able to help you out. Good luck.

(P.S. Never trust anyone with a tidy desktop. ;) )
